Dr. Robert Louis Chaefsky, MD

I’ve been seeing Dr Chaefski for years now, referred by a friend. I had to find a new psychiatrist because my last one retired-broke my heart. I’ve been seeing psychiatrists for 26 yrs now & I seen & experienced it all...believe me. Long story short I finally o longer cared that I had worked as a psychiatric nurse with Dr Donald Levin because he was an excellent psychopharmacologist. I only give you this background because I spent the majority of my adult life extremely depressed for long periods which lead to substance abuse to self medicate as one of the med regimes I had been on worked. So my level of loss and apprehension when I went to see Dr C was so high I thought I was sure to be disappointed. That was our introduction & I knew right away that I would work welp with Dr C. He’s not going to everyone’s cup of tea as he doesn’t mix his words but so listens to me. He hit the right antidepressant med after the 1st visit and I felt like maybe this how it feels to live… outside the dark web had spun around myself. Don’t expect meds are your answer because making changes is the answer.Meds just helped me get loose from my self-imposed prison. I’m Bipolar 1-mixed which can be very challenging to treat. But as I said in the beginning, if your ready for the work then Dr C is your guy!

I have never met a finer man or a finer Doctor. He is someone who you can talk freely to and who is always there to help.

I was a patient of Chaefsky years ago when I was a teenager, and I remained a patient of his for three or four years. I was never treated properly. When he prescribed me an anti-depressant originally, I was so excited because I assumed that I would feel better. Time passed, nothing changed, and I still felt awful. According to him, and regardless of what I said, my diagnosis was mild depression and anxiety that was exacerbated by puberty. After a while, I became so frustrated because he continuously talked down to me, and I wasn't feeling better. Eventually, I stopped going altogether. Fast forward five years, a suicide attempt, and continuous self-harm; I was eventually admitted and *properly* diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I went from the 20mg of Lexapro that he insisted on, to over 1200mg of various medication that actually helps me. Long story short, I feel like I lost almost ten years of quality life because I didn't trust seeking help due to my experience with Chaefsky… treating me like a girl dealing with pms.

Dr. C has saved my life. He is honest and very upfront yet very pleasant. He is not afraid to medicated and asks you to check in with him if you are experiencing unwanted side effects with the medication. I am sorry for those that say they have had problems with Dr.C..... but what I am hearing, is not the Dr. that I know and love so very dearly. To those whom are looking for a good, experienced and attentive Psychiatrist.... he is the man for you. God Bless him for being so understanding and the person that he is. His bed side manners are unlike I've ever experienced before!! Thank you Dr. C!!! You my dear, are a life saver!!!

I wish I had met Dr. Chaefsky sooner. I lost friends, lovers and jobs. If you are looking for a doctor for a loved one or know of someone who is, he's your man. He has kept me out of the hospital for 30 years. He knows his meds. And he has the perfect persona that you WILL listen to him. I love you Dr. Chaefsky. You saved my life!

Dr cheafsky is not that good ... He believes what he believes and does not listen good .... Knows more about sports than his job !!!!

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with the other reviews on Dr. Chaefsky. I met with him twice. I felt he really didn't listen to what I had to say or questions that I had. He prescribed a medication for me and told me if I had any problems to give him a call. I had problems with the medication. I called and left a voicemail message. He never returned my call. Very unprofessional and showed me he really didn't take his job seriously.
