Dr. Robert Howard Fields, MD

I chose Dr. Fields for my 98 yr. old Mother because of his Bio that indicated "he liked his job, because he sees interesting people with interesting problems and his patients describe him as 'personal'". When he & his associate entered the exam room, they did not introduce themselves to us. They walked in with computers in hand and began talking to each other about my mother's prior surgery's. After about 5 minutes, Dr. Fields finally looked at us and asked my Mom how often is she walking. She indicated she can't because her legs hurt too much. Without even touching her, he said according to the Xray we took, she doesn't have any new fractures, so I think it's spinal stenosis causing her leg pain. He suggested she use ice & heat for pain. He then asked me in a cryptic manor how is her stomach? I had to ask what do you mean? He asked if she could swallow pills. I said yes, which led to him saying she can take Advil for pain. I explained she'd had a ruptured duodenal ulcer 1… year ago (which was clearly written in the extensive write up of past surgeries we provided as a new patient) and he immediately said she could not take Advil. I mentioned she'd been taking Tylenol as needed and he said that would be OK. However, when asked how often, he only responded with "I don't like Tylenol". As he was hurriedly leaving the exam room he said, "She needs to walk more." I had to ask for a prescription for physical therapy, which caused him to come back into the room to write the prescription. When I asked if the PT could be given at the Board & Care where Mom lives, he quickly said he didn't know and I'd have to make those arrangements with his desk clerk. At 98 years old, Mom isn't looking for a miracle, but we were looking for a "personal" doctor with some answers as to why she was experiencing so much pain. I fail to see, with the minimal amount of information he had, how he could make a spinal stenosis diagnosis AND not even go into any kind of explanation as to exactly what that was or how it could be helped. We won't be going back!!!

Great Doctor!

saw this horrible , arrogant Dr. for my workers compensation injury. He made no qualms that he disliked injured workers. He never wrote a honest report of my injury. He gave me a very low rating after me having 3 knee surgery, and severe muscle weakness! When I could not bend he pushed me to bend , and caused me more pain. He seem to side with the insurance company! Never cared to follow through to make sure that his recommendations for me was ever followed! Most horrible Dr. I have ever encountered.

No help whatsoever, billed me anyway. Went in with tendinitis in my elbow, left with same - because after waiting over two hours in his waiting room for a scheduled appointment, Dr. Fields flat-out refused to treat the injury. Instead, he arrogantly told me to take more Advil for a month and then he'd think about the cortisone injection that I knew would fix it as it had in the past. Meanwhile, I had to work through a massive work deadline with truncated exercise and sleep because of the non-treatment, and finally went to another doctor who did what he should have and fixed it in 48 hours. Then the bill arrived for over $300 for the office visit at which nothing whatsoever was accomplished. If you're looking for arrogance and condescension instead of actual treatment -- followed up by sleazy, insulting, self-righteous billing practices -- then Dr. Fields is your man. Otherwise, avoid him like the plague he represents within the San Fernando Valley medical community. And I wasn't the… only one who was near open revolt for the long wait times for their appointments. This practice would be a joke, if it weren't so abusive.
