Saw him for 2 years. Learned a lot about myself

I was in a really bad place when I found Dr. Geistwhite. I had been to several doctors to help me with severe Insomnia, anxiety and depression. I knew as soon as I met Dr. Geistwhite that he would help me and he has tremendously. If your looking for a compassionate doctor that listens and is truly there to help you get well then I highly recommend him.

I was assigned to this doctor when I was a psychiatry inpatient. He was dismissive of my concerns and problems, and after my discharge he held up the release of my medical records. I would avoid him as a practitioner at all costs.

I was seeing Dr. Geistwhite regularly for over a year. Every session with him was extremely awkward, and he failed to really do anything aside from writing me a prescription for an SSRI. When I complained of feelings of apathy after taking the medication for a while, he said that couldn't be a side effect of the meds. I've since been told that's not true (by my PMHNP) and that it's actually quite common. So not only does he do very little, when he does do something, he has no idea what he's doing! Also, the woman who does his billing is incredibly rude and actually threatened to send back my insurance company's payment and charge me for several months worth of appointments. I stopped going after that. $120 for 15 minutes of awkward silence and stares isn't worth it, especially when it's followed up by a weekly call from his angry billing employee.

I can only speak for my experience with Dr. Geistwhite, which was really positive. I was going through a difficult period, and he really helped me. I felt like he cared and I trusted him. When I moved from Portland, I decided to abandon therapy because I couldn't imagine finding another situation that made me feel as comfortable. I'm sure the other reviewers have good reasons for their ratings, but it must have been very different from my experience.
