Dr. Robert Bruce Guinan, MD

While I find Dr. Guinan sort of dry, my husband and I have been going to him for several years and have complete confidence in him as a doctor.

This man treated me so badly I was still in his office while looking up other doctors. He looked at me condescending. Didn't care about my pain, inability to eat, digest food, or go to the bathroom. Said he already diagnosed me 6 months ago (incorrectly I might add) with lesions from a hysterectomy. My body isn't even digesting (at all) and he ordered me a swallow test. I pay for everything out of pocket. It took me two weeks to get into him on an emergency basis after two ER trips. He spent less than 5 minutes in the room with me. I paid before I saw him then received an additional bill because he charged for more time. He is a theif and doesn't care about other human life. Do NOT go to him if you want to be or get healthy. He is not a nice or caring person.

I am surprised at this doctor's manners. He is not friendly and when he is asked questions, he gets mad. He doesn't seem to really care about the patient's symptoms. What a big surprise.

Dr. Guinan talks to patients as if they are children. He has a script he follows rigidly and gets irritated if, for example, you do not know which organisms are in the pro-biotics you have been taking. He assumes a "father knows best" attitude which leaves no room for patient's knowledge of what works with their bodies. He told me I probably had Giardia and discounted my experience, as a backpacker, with knowledge of that infection. He treated me as if I had no business having an opinion on the subject. At least, I learned new words--pedantic, supercilious, and arrogant, to name a few. Then, I "fired" a doctor for the first time in my life!

Probably professionally competent but has few communication skills, seems uncomfortable taking to patients so does very little of it and leaves the important discussions to lower staff. When he does try to talk he is in such a rush that he is overtly condesencing, offering unsolicited definitions of common words like benign.
