Dr. Robert Newcomb Merrill, MD

I am on the Autism Spectrum. I made this clear to all office staff and the doctor prior to my first appointment. In no way were my accomodation requests honored. Even with an official diagnosis, the doctor, unqualified to say so, wrote in my record that I "likely" was on the Autism Spectrum. I paid $1800 to a testing specialist doctor, and went to three appointments for that diagnonis to be confirmed, only to have my new doctor brush it off. He shouldn't get to choose what he wants to pay attention to. He needs to learn to be a listener, because I did not experience being heard at all.

i saw dr merrill as a primary car in 2016. i think his instincts toward being an honest doctor are good. but he's tired and no lnger trusts his patients, very sad and utterly non-therapeutic medical care in maine.

Shortly into my first meeting with Dr. Merrill, for primary care, he looked straight at me and said, "People don't like you." The only possible basis for this haunting statement from someone in authority, were previous medical notes. A formal complaint with the Board of Licensure would have been filed, but there was no witness. There was no drug abuse history, no alcohol abuse history, no history of inappropriate behavior. You may think there had to be some grounds for this horrendous statement, but there weren't. It would be libelous to make the statement here if it were not true. This has to rank as one of the top abuses of authority, and shameful treatment of any patient, regardless of history. That it came to mind as it has, several years after the fact, is evidence of the harm it caused. Of course, I never returned.
