Dr. Robert Eugene Mitchell, MD

I am 46 years old and found out I need a total hip replacement, I visited with Dr Mitchell , I had been to Dr's in San Antonio and found their bedside manner to Beverly disturbing so when I met Dr Mitchell I was very pleased and happy to have him actually listen to y concerns and explain to me what was happenning to my body. We arranged the surgery and he talked me through the whole procedure before and made me feel very comfortable , during my examinations he also discovered that I would be needing a second replacement on my other hip soon , he was right as the other one was healing the second one was going out, the healing process on the first went quickly, and smoothly, Dr Mitchell arranged for physical therapy to come to my home and made it so much easier for me since I live way out in the country. I am now awaiting the second surgery to be done in June, I am excited and ready because I know my quality of life is going to be so much better thanks to Dr Mitchell and his expertise in… this field!! Thank you Dr Mitchell for being the best, most caring Dr I have ever known! I recommend him for anyone needing joint replacement!

Very business like and to the point. Very caring of his patients. I had surgery in the early morning and Dr. Mitchell came back that evening to check on me. The next morning he visited me and sat down and went over my morning blood work. Visited me everyday while I was in the hospital. Office visits were in a professional manner and all my questions were always answered.

Dr. Mitchell replaced both my hips, one in 2010 the other 2012. I have been very satisfied with the results. No more pain at all while doing normal everyday activities. Dr. Mitchell also repaired my rotator cuff. Dr. Mitchell and staff have always been courteous friendly and helpful. I would recommend Dr. Mitchell, his staff and Peterson Regional Medical Center to anyone in need of joint replacements.

Love my doctor he did a awesome job on both of my knees and would have him do it again . I would recommend him to any one . This man is outstanding surgeon and I have hardly any scars on my knees, Also I would give him a FIVE STAR??

The service provided by the staff at Dr. Mitchell's office was average or a little above. However, my time with Dr. Mitchell was infuriating. I have mucus cysts on my fingers, which is a common affliction for middle-age women. Dr. Mitchell took one look at my hands and told me I would need to see a hand doctor because he didn't want to take responsibility for my situation. This is fine. He then asked my what I did for a living. His diagnosis took less than 5 seconds and the short discussion about what I do for a living took about a minute. He charged me $150 for telling me I needed to see somewhere else. This is the charge for an office visit, which I was prepared to pay but all he did was refer me to somewhere else. I paid this out of pocket because I only have catastrophic insurance. His staff did follow up by calling a group of orthopedic hand surgeons in San Antonio and assigned me to one of the doctors. I checked his reviews online to discover he had only a 67% approval rating so… I asked for a different doctor (who had a 100% rating) and was obliged. Other than law, I can't think of any other profession where people ge away with charging $150 for about a minutes worth of work. Take away $50 for his staff having to make my file and call for the referral and that is still $100 per minute. That is $6,000 per hour to tell me he won't help me. (By the way, I diagnosed the problem myself prior to seeing Dr. Mitchell just by going online.) What Dr. Mitchell did is perfectly legal but completely unethical. It doesn't matter if I am a pauper or a millionaire: $6,000 an hour is wrong. The problem with out healthcare system isn't that everyone doesn't have insurance but that the cost of care is unaffordable, and unethically so. This should be the topic people are discussing and doctors such as Dr. Mitchell should see a drop in patients as a result of price-gouging.

skilled, knowledgeable, and years of experience. I knew my knee was in capable hands. Knee surgery is a bummer, but the outcome was worth it. I have an active life again.
