Dr. Robert Bruce Ogesen, MD

I saw him years ago, for stress related issues and a low-dose Xanax prescription that I took once a day. Doctors I went to kept telling me it was better to get this medication from a Psychiatrist. So I looked up Psychiatrists and went to to see Ogesen. I'd learned, after being given a long term,large-dose prescription by a previous doctor, not to keep ramping up the strength of Xanax. Otherwise there's no end to it. But, can stay effective at the original dose strength if you reduce the amount of times you take it. For instance, if taken once a day the medication can maintain it's original effect. But if it's taken several times a day, it will lose it's effectiveness because your system builds up sort of an immunity. I learned that by personal experience. So, instead of going up and up and up again, I maintained a low dose, once a day, and it remained effective for me. I was managing it very well and intelligently. Maybe I'm also sensitive to medications and that helps. But after a… few visits, Ogesen informed me he didn't believe the medication was helping me {even though I'd told him I was doing OK}. He thought something was "off", in other words didn't trust me, because he knew Xanax stopped being effective after a while if kept at the same dosage. What he DIDN'T know is, like I've said, you can take a dose once a day and it will remain effective. But if you start taking it more often it probably won't. {And maybe it can be taken once every 12 hours and that would be effective too, except I didn't try that}. If he'd not surprised me with what he said, he might have learned something. But he'd already judged me. But I couldn't fathom why he had any issue with me because I happened to be doing just fine and NOT asking for higher doses. That seemed to arouse a lot of suspicion from him. I did tell him "it only lasts about 4 hours". Meaning, if I was sticking to one low dose a day, it WAS helping me because all the time that elapses between one daily dose and the next one {on the following day} allows the medication to remain effective. There's enough of a time GAP ,your body does not build up an immunity. Then he lied to me and claimed he was getting out of Psychiatry to do some other line of work. I believed him, and wished him luck. I didn't recognize the passive-aggressive, untrue nature of what he was saying. I didn't even realize I'd been insulted. Because I'm OK with discussing concerns, either mine or a doctor's. It's OK with me if someone wants me to explain something. I'll explain, no problem. Later I told another doctor what had happened, that Ogesen had been my prescriber but he'd left Psychiatry. The doctor looked Ogesen up and said "no, he's still practicing". I asked the doctor, "so... he lied to me"? Apparently so. We wereboth bemused, because it was weird. Ogesen is a psychiatrist. Think about that when you consider his behavior towards me. Pretty ironic.

I had a very good experience with Dr Ogesen. He was helpful and listened to my concern. I will definitely be going back.

He doesn't enjoy his job and seems like he doesn't even want to be there. Very rude and condescending, was actually of no help at all. Won't be returning to his office.

It takes the office many many days to return calls, no matter how urgent. I changed to a different doctor who cares about patients!

What a useless pantywaste. I came in a little stressed out, and not only had he nothing to say, but would/could not refer to me to someone else. Bedside manner of a rock. He accepts Blue Cross --- better to pay for a private doctor and get partial reimbursement for out of network visits.
