Dr. Robert Paul Reichstein, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Reichstein for years. I stayed with him even after he instituted his gigantic annual "administrative fee" to cover costs he could not bill for-- including calls, and filling out insurance paperwork. Now he has dropped Medicare patients, without even giving any warning. The letter telling us this information arrived a month after the date of its inception. So, good doctor, but how unprofessional. I am 70 and not happy about this.

He is brilliant, direct, supportive, and helpful

A very cool personality. I didn't feel that he gave me as thorough an examin . .on as I have been accustom Although He takes Medicare, his initial charge was over $800 of which over $500 was for administrative services. His receptionist, twice asked me to sign an additional document that would have required me to pay him an additional $500 for the simple right to call the doctor anytime I needed a prescription or was not feeling well. When I asked her how that was different from any relationship with a doctor, she said no difference. Needless to say, I didn't sign it.

Dr. Reichstein is very thorough, knowledgable, and caring. I couldn't ask for better care from any specialist.

Dr. Reichstein is an uncaring doctor who is rude and does not want to hear what patients say. When I asked for my tests results he said it was fine but would not tell me a number. It was not fine. He does not want to be questioned and has horrible medical judgement. He makes poor clinical decisions and is never available. This is really not someone who belongs with patients. He needs to retire because he no longer wants to round at a hospital or listen to patients. He just could care less.

Dr Reichstein should retire. Unfortunately, many people in my family have had various medical issues. We have had a lot of experience with doctors and hospitals. In my life, I have never met a worse doctor. He constantly looks at his watch. He does not like to answer questions. He has a very arrogant personality. He told us that he only wanted to deal with the heart issues. I asked if other medication that I was taking would be okay to take with Coumadin. He was reluctant to answer and told us to speak to my internist. He also did a poor job monitoring my Coumadin levels. I had to be hospitalized. He hardly came around. He has no residents on his staff so you are left with busy nurses while in the hospital. He was never able to control my afib. He s not only arrogant but you will find out that he is not smart. Everything was difficult with him. I switched doctors and hospitals. They immediately changed my medicines and recommended me for an ablation. These new doctors made it seem… easy. They were kind and supportive. They changed my meds. My heart was more stable.I had an ablation. The residents visited me. The care was tremendous. Try calling dr. Reichstein after hours. It is horrible. He is always on vacation or never around. If you have a problem, he is not your guy. Trust me go to a doctor that has partners and coverage and who will care. I truly believe this man has a personality disorder. He put me on so many combinations of toxic drugs and still could not control my heart rate. The new doctors stabilized my heart rate within a few days and lowered the doses and combinations. It was a horrible experience.

SUPERFICIAL,CURSORY EVALUATION WITH HIM CHECKING HIS WATCH EVERY FEW MINUTES. COMPLETELY MISSED MY DIAGNOSIS. AVOID THIS DOCTOR

Having been a patient for over 20 years, along with 4 members of my extended family, Dr. Reichstein is one of the best diagnosticians I know. I go to him with medical issues, and he addresses them without beating them to death. U Chicago, Chief Resident, if this is what you are looking for, you have found the right place.

Dr. Reichstein may be ok for people with uncomplicated medical issues, I have no idea. But I have a lot of very complicated issues, some of which can be life threatening at times, and he has been rude, judgmental, has not returned calls, and does not coordinate with other physicians, which is what a good primary care physician does. He also once had his biller call me to ask which medication I "wanted". I was unable to get an appt with a doctor in another specialty and asked him to intervene as he himself has stated he was "friends" with this doctor. His response was "sometimes we just have to be patient, I have no control over his schedule". Mind you, he refused to even make the phone call to see if I could be seen sooner. When I expressed displeasure at this, he stated that we all had to "work together". I have absolutely no idea what that meant. I can only say that I would NEVER recommend him to anyone for anything. I should have gone with my gut feeling-when I went to his… office for the first time, I had a list of questions to ask and when he saw the list, he said "I'll be the one asking the questions here". I thought he was kidding at the time, but in retrospect, I don't know. I will not be returning.

Dr Reichstein is a very caring physician. He took a lot of time with me, and was very empathetic. I highly recommend him.
