Dr. Robert Merritt Roach, MD

I was operated on for carpal tunnel release on both wrist and was successfully relieved. I was operated for a cervical neck fusion with superb surgery and recovery with quick healing. I had removal of an acoustic neuroma tumor and had major complications with spinal fluid leak and contracted spinal meningitis twice with multiple hospitalization.I was able to return to teaching after six months and owe my inspiration and perseverance to Dr. Roach. He was caring, skillful. encouraging and amazing! In the Many appointments and a year of follow ups I never felt rushed or neglected. All my questions were answered and his professionalism still amazes me that I was blessed choosing this outstanding surgeon. My father-in-law (a surgeon of over 55 years)was just as impressed with the thoroughness and kindness and attention that was delivered by him and his staff/office. I am forever grateful to this fine surgeon??Yay for post 20 years of gratitude! Keep the faith! God bless you Dr.Roach! I’m… able to enjoy retirement and grandkids!!!

Two symptomless months after bike accident concussion a MRI revealed a large clot requiring emergency surgery. No time to do the usual vetting of surgeons and Dr. Roach was the surgeon assigned to do my surgery. Lucky me; a great surgeon and great result.

Dr. Roach is the one who patched the hole in my head and stopped me from leaking spinal fluid out my nose. Should have done his procedure first and saved a lot of heart ache in the meantime.He & PA's may be short at times, but with the case load and new ones coming into ER 24/7 it can be a bit overbearing. We have to accept that sometimes GOD has a plan and the Dr. may or may not be a part of it! I love & respect Dr. Roach!

He treated me with courtesy and was very understanding when I wanted a second opinion for my spinal fusion surgery after a bad accident. he said he would have done the same thing if it was him and we joked a little about what the other Dr. said. The nurses & techs at North Mem. told me that if they needed a neurosurgeon, he is the one they would want. Before the surgery he made sure all my questions were answered, and after, he was very kind & checked on me often. I heard him dealing with a very difficult patient sharing my room who was using very abusive language on him and accusing him and the nurses of trying to harm her, yet he was calm and patiently explaining to her that she had been hurt very badly and they were trying to help her. I was impressed and I still think fondly of him. He also did a great job on my incisions-can barely see them now.

I was being given the worst news of my life. My husband suffered a massive stroke and had extensive brain damage.Dr. Roach is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever heard of. He acted like it was an inconvience for him to do the surgery. When he came out of surgery, he acted like a jerk to my family, children and I. To top matters off, he then sent me a $7000 bill because he did not take the Blue Cross because he chooses to not participate with them. Save yourself the heartache. He is not a nice man. He would make a good bill collector, not a brain surgeon.
