Dr. Robert Adam Schumer, MD

Dr. Schumer and his office staff provided excellent care and treatment. I am pleased with his ability to provide information and treatment, as needed, since I also live in South Florida.

The doctor has become rather curt and arrogant as time goes on. His staff unresponsive and just a negative atmosphere in the office. Have lost confidence in the practive.

Dr Schumer was beyond rude to me during his examination - my husband who was also present agreed his treatment of me was abusive. We couldn't work out why he would want to humiliate and power trip over me, I'm a cooperative and friendly patient. The first thing that happened was that he had me start turning my head in this direction and the other, and look at the chart - this worsened my double vision so dramatically that I began to get nauseous and a seasick sensation. At one point I exclaimed 'oh wow! What's happening?', more out of surprise at how bad my double vision was from all these different angles. His response was an angry "that's what I'm trying to figure out" - but the tone he said it was as if I was an idiot. Next he told me that these certain angles made my double vision worse, and one of them was a position I often read in, so I mentioned that I did happen to read a lot. He dismissed me as if I was stupid by saying 'oh everyone reads a lot!'. The only thing he… left off the end was 'you stupid woman' which is what it seemed he wanted to say. Next he kept trying to insist that my double vision was horizontal, or next to the image, however, it was directly above, and I told him so. Nonetheless, he persisted in saying, 'See, it's beside it now,,isn't it?'. To which my answer was no, only to make him more irritated. Eventually I conceded that it was diagonal even though it wasn't, just to stop his harrassment. Funnily, on leaving, my husband said to him that his nurses had mentioned that he was a great guitar player (the nurses are wonderful by the way. If only he was half as good as his staff) - and introduced himself by name. My husband is a well known person in the music industry. Suddenly my husband and I both noticed Dr Schumer shrink a little in his seat as he said he knew all of my husbands work etc etc. He suddenly seemed a little embarrassed about his vile treatment of me. There's no way he would have been if he hadn't have cared two hoots about who we were. This Dr is a woman hating abuser. I did nothing at all to attract his put downs and shaming. He is simply a power tripper that delighted in taking his anger issues out on someone who was vulnerable due to being afraid of what had suddenly happened with their eyesight. He is right up there with the worst doctors I have seen. Shame on him.

Dr Schumer is personable, down-to-earth, brilliant, and has a state of the art office and knows how to use it!! Also, his staff couldnt be nicer or more helpful and knowledgeable. He has made my glaucoma a thing that I am comfortable living with - whereas before, I was living in fear of blindness! He's the best MD for glaucoma in the area by far. Go to him!!

best Dr. in his field on the planet Have been a patient for almost 12 years. I was referred to him by a friend and former staff who has since moved away.I am competely satisfied with not only his expert care but the patient physician interactions are beyond reproach

Excellent interpersonal physician-patient interactions. I was referred to Dr. Shumer for an urgent consultation after experiencing an unknown eye problem which caused me tremendous pain and vision loss. He and his staff attended to me without hesitation. I was pleasantly surprised that his staff member took her time to call and check up on me a few days thereafter. I honestly don't like the glaucoma check with those eyedrops though. It blurred my vision for about an hour or so.
