Dr. Robert Clayton Steiner, MD

Dr Steiner has the best bed side manner and is highly intelligent! He explains very clearly and answers all questions! He also has lots of patience. He is the best would recommend to everyone!

I was referred to Dr. Steiner for gallbladder attacks. I saw Dr. Steiner 3 or 4 visits and he had me literally in tears in his office, telling me repeatedly, "there is no reason for me to medically or legally remove your gallbladder". After his reluctantly agreeing to do the surgery, telling me there is only a 50-50 chance that this is your problem, I had panic attacks the night before surgery and I cancelled. I've had many surgeries and I have NEVER had the lack of confidence in a surgeon that I did with Dr. Steiner. I was actually afraid for him to operate on me. After about another year of gallbladder attacks, my family doctor referred me to another surgeon, Dr. Chu, who told me, "often times a HIDA scan will indicate the gallbladder as functioning properly, when in fact, the gallbladder may very well be diseased and need to come out". Dr. Chu said he was 95% sure the surgery would take care of my problems. This was in fact the case. Dr. Chu found not only was the gallbladder… diseased and needed removing, but Dr. Chu noted my bile duct tube was enlarged, leading me to have a 2nd procedure to remove several large, hard stones and sludge from; and a temporary stent placed in my bile duct tube. So there will be another (3rd) procedure to remove the temporary stent. I will always wonder if Dr. Steiner had not been so negative, destroying my confidence in him; would I not had to have had the latter two procedures; not to mention, would I not have had another year of pain and vomiting. No, I would not refer Dr. Steiner to family or friends, nor would I choose his services again. On the other hand, Pinehurst Surgical Clinic, in my honest opinion, overall, is the best of the best.

Dr. Steiner and his entire staff set a whole new precedence of hospitality, patient care, and are truly examples to be followed in the medical field.
