Dr. Robert Doyle Stulting JR., MD

Ended up with Dr Stulting following a referral for corneal calcification. I had read many reviews prior to my visit and it seemed that the general consensus was that he was a great doctor but arrogant and condescending. My first visit he entered the room with his entourage and introduced himself. He was reasonably friendly but pretty much to business. At this point I was satisfied. Second visit, he walked in with no greeting, asked me if I had a driver, then proceeded to prep me for a corneal scraping. That time he seemed arrogant, condescending, and someone who was highly stressed fitting many of the reviews I had read. Can't say how good of a doctor he is. The calcification came back and I had it removed by a colleague of his, Dr. Hays, because I refused to go back to Dr. Stulting. It came back following the second procedure as well. I would be very reluctant to ever go back to Dr. Stulting. Not because of his medical abilities but because to me he came across as… someone who seemed stressed, arrogant, condescending, and who viewed himself as some sort of a deity.

I am certain that he is an excellent, experienced and incredible doctor but to be honest I don't care. He is the rudest man I have ever encountered, is condescending and speaks disgustingly to his students and staff. They all seem to be afraid of him and I certainly felt uncomfortable in his presence. He diagnosed me with cornea erosion but was not really sure and didn't do anything to help me. I went back four times and he seemed to forget who I was and why I was there. No thank you moving on.

I have a rare collagen disorder that causes complications for any surgery. I needed cataract surgery but was very concerned after meeting with two eye surgeons who did not know about the disorder, nor did they want to learn about it prior to performing my surgery. Alarmed, I spent two years searching for the best eye surgeon available anywhere. When I met Dr. Stulting, I knew immediately he was the surgeon I needed. He performed both of my eye surgeries (one month apart) with perfect results and no complications. 20 months later and I am still thrilled with the results. Dr. Stulting is a Miracle Man!!

I highly recommend Dr. Stulting. My cataract surgery on both eyes went great and my vision is now excellent. I was very apprehensive about the surgery because I had had a retina tear in each eye in my past. I was referred to this doctor because I feared complications and my optician said Dr. Stulting is the doctor to go to for high risk cases. Under his care I had a very positive outcome. I want to thank Dr. Stulting for being such a skilled physician.

Dr. Stulting is extremely knowledgeable and honest in his assessment of eye issues. His prognosis and recovery protocol were spot on and he emits confidence that helps his patients be confident.

Very knowledgeable - he is direct and to the point, but an excellent doctor

He has been downright rude when I've asked questions, but -- like an obstetrician I had many years ago who was awful in the office but wonderful and caring during delivery -- during both of my cataract surgeries at Emory and a ZAG laser procedure at Woolfson, he was kind and considerate while actually performing medical procedures, and that's when it matters. Like those who feel privileged working with him, I will suffer through the bad manners for someone who knows what he is doing.

Dr Stulting has a lack of bedside manner, BUT he is one of the most qualified doctors available. Check out his real credentials, not some whiney cry baby rating website. If you want your hand held, join a dating service. If you want the best front of the eye guy, see Dr. Stulting. My down rating was for the staff when he was at Emory.

My opthamologist in Dallas TX who was also a professor of opthamology at University of Texas Southerwestern Medical School, referred me to Dr. Stulting when I moved to Atlanta, so I know unequivocally that he is the very best. My first visit was an entirely too-long wait, 1 hr. 45 minutes,and the excessive wait does make you feel diminished as a person, but the second visit was better. I can see that his "bedside manner" isn't for everyone, but I don't mind taciturn as many doctors, esp. surgeons, tend not to be chatty.

While he may not have the best bedside manner, and I don't think he is going to change at his age. If you are looking for a great doctor this is your guy. If you want a friend, keep looking. I, personaly would prefer him over someone with a great bedside manner who is not near as qualified.
