Dr. Robert Emmanuel Tomas, DO

Dr. Thomas was endorsed from prof. Desarda but he performs as he said "improved" desarda. He removes thin slice from abdominal muscle wall and use it as an additional patch. In other words he does not perform what he was endorsed for. More cuts more chance for infection, pain and longer time for recovery. He charges, at least when I visited him in Oct. 2020, flat rate and did not accept any insurance. I went to dr. Yunis from Sarasota. He uses at least 3 no mesh technics. Keep in mind Desarda is very good technic but it is not universal. If dr. Thomas makes initial incision and sees that oblique aponeurosis is not intact you are out of luck. He can not perform desarda and it is not known he is specialized in other no mesh repair. Go somewhere else but do good research!

Dr Robert Tomas messed me up so bad that 6 years later I’m still in pain and have been permanent damaged! Make sure to get a second and third opinion to make sure you even have a hernia before letting this man cut you open and hurt you. I never even had a hernia and was cut open twice by this man. My muscles were so damaged that I could not even breathe correctly. I now have non stop issues due to a surgery that was not even needed. The stitches he used cut into my muscles so bad that my muscle was shredded and is now permanently damaged. I curse this guy every dang day.

My job required heavy lifting for over 36 years. Just before retiring I noticed a lump on the lower left side of my abdomen. I did some research and soon determined it was an inguinal hernia. I was tired of watching the hernia mesh commercials from attorneys suing those mesh companies, and I knew I didn't want any of that in my body. So I searched the internet for no mesh hernia surgery and there was Dr Tomas with a video of an actual surgery, and the more I researched, the more I knew this was the Doctor I wanted to fix my hernia. I made an appointment, met with him, and indeed I had a left inguinal hernia. I proceeded to have it repaired the following week and the entire experience couldn't have gone better. He did advise me that the right side was also weak, but did not yet need surgery. 4 years later my right side started bulging also and the ONLY person I thought about was Dr Tomas. I went thru the process again and this time it was even smoother, better, and almost painless… due to all the new pain control protocols that they have continued to add to the procedure. Just follow the prescribed pain and infection protocol and you will be very impressed and happy that you met Dr Robert Tomas. Nobody could have made this experience any more pleasant and assuring.

I had tried to schedule a surgury to repair two hernias with our local hospital system, but as we are self pay we could not afford the $28,000 charge that they wanted for the proceedure. I started looking online to see what my options might be. I discovered an online review of Dr Tomas and decided to look into it further. Dr. Tomas and his staff deserve high praise for their professional and caring manner and for the great results I have with my surgury. I had been dealing with a large umbilical hernia for 7 years and a growing inguinal hernia. The clinic was able to schedule me during my best window of availability from work, and a week later I was in Florida fo a Tuesday pre-op meeting. I was able to find super cheap airfair on Allegeant Air into Punta Gorda, 30 miles north of the clinic. In fact, tickets were cheap enough I was able to take my adult daughter as a helper. We rented a car and drove to the hotel that the Clinic recommended. The hotel runs a shuttle to… Dr Tomas' office, but we used our rental car. Dr Tomas' clinic is easy to find and has plenty of parking. The folks at the clinic were wonderful, and they were very informative and ready to answer any questions. Mind you, I was moderately apprehensive since we had traveled far based only on good reviews and some other internet investigation, so I was very relieved to find out Dr Tomas runs a very professional clinic and has wonderful people helping him. My Wednesday surgury went according to schedule and by mid afternoon I was resting back at the hotel. The clinic provides a nicely done presentation of meds to be taken at intervals, and my daughter and I had no trouble adjusting to the routine. I was walking the hallway on day one and relaxing down by the pool the evening of day two. Of course my body was well aware that I had just had surgury, so all movements and walking were done with care. Nearly every day since the surgury I have felt definite improvement as I recover. Tomorrow is three weeks since the surgury and I am extremely happy with the results. I highly recomend that you contact Dr. Tomas' clinic to discuss getting your hernia fixed.

Dr. Tomas operated on my left Inguinal Hernia just over a week ago, and I am very pleased with the results. While searching for a hernia surgeon, my decision to go with a no-mesh surgeon was influenced by watching television ads involving class action lawsuits for patients who had mesh hernia surgery and by talking to an individual who had hernia surgery with mesh ten years ago...he was now having pain in that area which would likely necessitate taking the mesh out and having another surgery. I didn’t want a foreign object like that embedded in me. Dr. Tomas answered all my questions and put me at ease. The surgery was as flawless as an inguinal surgery can be and I’m recovering well. He is an excellent surgeon and, with specialization in a no-mesh and no-tension surgery technique, the decision to go with him was an easy one. The results speak for itself, as he and his entire staff were marvelous for the entire duration, from the initial consultation to the post-operative meeting.… Kudos to Dr. Tomas and his staff.

What a great experience from start to finish! Contacting the center by phone and email was easy and very helpful. The clinic is very clean and modern and you feel good just walking into it. Doctor Tomas has mastered the technique. I'm a vibrantly healthy 70+ and within less than a week, I was off pain meds and just needed to complete the 10 days of the antibiotics. I followed the protocol carefully with my wife's support - setting my smartphone alarm was key to staying timely on the meds. The only pain I ever had was a moment when sitting or standing. Fortunately I didn't sneeze or cough the first week because that can hurt. Now, it's week five and the surgical line is nearly invisible (no external stitches, just surgical glue was used). Follow the protocol CAREFULLY for maximum, rapid healing (like frequent icing). I highly recommend Dr. Tomas and his team. My surgery was performed at the Colonial Outpatient Surgery Center; another great experience with staff and experience… overall. One tip: take care of details like ice pack, meds, water and food for the day after surgery so you or your caregiver aren't stressed trying to get it done last minute.
