Dr. Lane Wimberly, MD

Dr. Wimberly and the entire staff and Scottish Rite hospital have been amazing since starting my daughters treatment there three years ago. He has been patient, direct, and knowledgeable. We couldn't be more thankful!

We aren't quite done with our 'ordeal', however things have gone so wonderfully, I wanted to go ahead and write our review. My daughter had a pretty major surgery related to a birth defect, and Dr. Wimberly was called in by our urologist. So first off, he is a great team player - we've been to other major hospitals that are known for treating her condition, and chose to stay local with this being a major selling point. Dr. Wimberly's credentials speak for themselves. It is his bedside manner, and ability to get creative with a very unique osteotomy situation in the OR, that we want to especially speak of. From our initial surgical consult, he approached our daughter (she's 3 years old) and introduced himself, and has always addressed her in addition to us parents. He came by several times while we were in the hospital recovering, and has personally called several times while we are finishing (a quite complex for us average folks!) recovery at home. He has a very kind and laid back… demeanor, which is crucial in my book in situations as stressful as these, but also hard to come by with some of the most capable and talented surgeons. He and his office have gone above and beyond helping to coordinate our follow up appointments with the other specialties, helping with insurance troubles, and just in general putting our very worried, exhausted, and stressed minds at ease! During surgery, Dr. Wimberly had to get creative in adjusting a fixator frame to work around some of our daughter's other anatomy. We were nothing short of impressed with the contraption that she came out of surgery with. In addition, he took into consideration our concerns about her not holding still well during recovery, and agreed to put a spica cast on her as well (and again, had to think outside of the typical spica box!). Our daughter is one in a million we like to say, and here at Children's, with Dr. Wimberly as part of her overall care team, she has gotten cared for accordingly. Here they don't try to fit patients into one box for treating this rare condition (like some of the big name hospitals that we visited do), but rather they come up with new boxes to fit each individual patient and family. We can't be more thankful to have this hospital and these doctors right here locally! And if we didn't live local, we would literally travel cross country for this level of care. Cloacal exstrophy and bladder exstrophy are no easy conditions to treat - if you want talented surgeons in addition to great care, look no further! Sorry for the long winded review, an amazing doctor is worth so much more!
