Dr. Roberto Francisco Alvarez, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Alvarez for over 15 years and that is because he's an excellent and caring physician. He is down to earth and takes the time necessary to listen to his patients. Highly recommend.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Poor rating is an understatement. I am not one to ever review but this really threw me off. A doctor is a caregiver, someone you trust with your personal information and trust you get the help you need. Dr. Alvarez was an on call doctor to prescribe me birth control because I thought I had one more refill but ended up not. My village medical office did not give me an update whether I needed to come in or not in order to get my refill. I waited two days until I called back again and they said oh yeah she wrote a note here that you need to come in. I was infuriated but understood my mistakes on my end, therefore I gave no issue to the staff. The reason I needed my birth control so bad is because I had no more left and birth control helps regulate my epilepsy. I was diagnosed at age 12 due to the spike in estrogen causing my seizures. Every time it would be that time of the month, I’d get a seizure. My neurologist recommended birth control. I am 21 years… old now and have been on birth control since I was about 16 so my body could develop properly and ever since, my seizures were reduced. To skip a pill was a no go for me. After finally getting on call with Dr. Alvarez, he was asking me the usual doctor questions and started to get a weird tone and attitude once I mentioned I needed birth control for my seizures. He questioned my statement, which I get, but I was getting the oppression that I was wasting his time and was just a young girl trying to get birth control. I felt like he questioned my condition in a way. I was so shocked the way he was talking to me. He tried to give me a lecture about calling a week before for a refill and I added again, yes I know, but I thought I had another refill and he said “well you didn’t so” in a rude attitude. It caught me off guard and I said hold on hold on and he said “look do you want me to call it in or not” threatening me to stop unless he won’t call in a prescription that I NEED. And when I told him to hold on to try to gather what to say since I was so shocked, he hung up on me when I was trying to talk. He then called me back a few minutes later and said I called in your prescription and I said “..... who do you think you are-“ and he said “bye” and hung up. Absolutely unprofessional to the MAX. To address Dr. Alvarez, it’s a good thing that I am strong enough to not let even doctors try to talk down on me. You’re clearly not a neurologist so I wouldn’t expect you to understand about women and the brain. If anything, I hope he and the people reading this, educate yourself about women and epilepsy in this regard and to also be kind and not judge someone based off of their age and what they’re asking. I am SO disappointed. I have been going to village family practice for over 10+ years and to be treated how I was, I will NOT be associated with village medical and definitely not with Dr. Alvarez.

I got switched to Dr Alvarez by accident , about 20 years ago, and have happily remained with him since. He has referred me to many specialists, and I have been quite satisfied with one. It is swift to get an appointment, and I am on the road to recovery immediately. It is always a pleasure to go to see him!

Dr. Alvarez has been my doctor for the last 25 years. I trust his judgement very much. Easy to talk to and he is a great listener.

My husband & I just recently moved to the Houston Area from New Mexico & were searching to establish our new PCP. After coming from a whole different state where we had established doctors it was a little scary to find a new doctor we could trust & feel comfortable with; I must say we are very pleased with Dr. Alvarez. We truly are blessed to have found such a wonderful doctor we can now call our PCP. His staff was helpful, pleasant & genuine. Dr. Alvarez was patient with us, very thorough, not rushed & made sure we felt welcome & that he had answered all our questions. He then referred us to the specialists we would need to get established with for further health care. We can say we are happy with the referral doctors as well; as Dr Alvarez referred us to the specialists as though we were family; as a former healthcare worker I have to say if you care for your patients as if they were your family you know you are getting top notch healthcare. We no longer are concerned with the fear… of not finding a caring & competent doctor, as we are blessed to say we now know our healthcare provider search is complete.
