Dr. Roberto Scaffidi, MD

Roberto Scaffidi, MD, specializes in interventional cardiology.Dr. Scaffidi knew he wanted to be a doctor since childhood. As a teenager, his father was diagnosed with unstable angina. Because his parents were immigrants with limited education, Dr. Scaffidi took the initiative himself to fully understand the diagnosis and ensure the best treatment was attained for his dad. The experience confirmed for Dr. Scaffidi that he wanted to be a cardiologist.As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Scaffidi deals with matters of the heart, including angina (severe chest pain), claudication (cramping pain in the leg caused by obstruction of the arteries) and severe aortic valve stenosis (obstruction of aortic valve that weakens heart muscles). He delivers quality care and treatments such as a coronary stenting, peripheral angioplasty and TAVR procedures.He is skilled in explaining conditions and treatments in a way all patients can understand. He is the current chair of Bayhealth’s Department of Cardiology and is the lead interventional cardiologist in the TAVR program. He also serves on the organization’s Medical Staff Wellness Committee. Outside of work, Dr. Scaffidi is president of and has served on his community’s HOA since its inception in 2010. He volunteers at his daughter’s college in the honors program, and is a member of a local running club, Downstate Delaware Striders and Riders.
