Dr. Robin Thomas Cotton, MD

We were referred by our ENT in Dallas, Texas to get to get rib-trach surgery in 1987 for our son. Dr. Cotton and his staff were excellent. Even though we had 2 surgeries, I am glad that my son Sunil Gupta has been free from his trach tube. Easy appointment, accurate diagnosis, appropriate follow-up.

We came to Cincinnati Children's from Utah, 7 times. Dr. Cotton's care was superb. His office was great to deal with. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Cotton and Cincinnati Children's.

Dr. Cotton has the worst bedside manner I have ever experienced. he attacked me verbally for simply being there. He said my sons tonsils were not bad and he did not need surgery. He then angrily quesioned me asking me why I bought my son in to see him, I explained his PCP had concerns and referred us and me not being a doctor followed the PCPs advice. He then went on to say my son was overweight and that is causing his problems, while he weighed my son he did not take a height. Yes my son is in the upper weight for his age, however he is also in the upper for his height, he’s a big guy but both in height and weight. He was extremely rude in talking about weight, yelling at me at one point to get up and look on his computer at the weight chart simply because I asked a question. Finally he asked what school we go to, I mentioned Montessori, to which he said he found Montessori ridiculous, so now he’s judging me as a parent and the choice I make in my child’s education! If you want… your kid to be scared of doctors and to be insulted personally certainly take your kid to dr Cotton , however my advice is run, run, run.

We have known Dr. Cotton for 14 years when he first started reconstructing my son's airway. He is absolutely the best.

I have had the exact same experience as another mother listed in these reviews. Dr. Cotton removed my son's ear tubes in office, stating it would be "no more painful than a shot". I can assure you my son has never screamed for shots in such horrible pain as he did when Dr. Cotton removed his tubes. Upon asking Dr. Cotton to stop, his behavior was appalling, yelling that it had to be done. He wouldn't explain why the tubes hadn't fallen out on their own and provided no comfort or relief to my son. The job of a doctor is to care for the whole patient, including his mental health and that of his parents in the case of a child. My son is traumatized by this experience, never wanting to see any doctor again. We will not return to this office for any further visits. Horibble bedside manner and horrible manners in general.

Dr Cotton repaired my daughters hole in her eardrum. This was the second hole that had occurred. The first Doctor that repaired her eardrum did not reapir it correctly and my daughter was unable to swim or perform normal activities for three years. This has been the best summer she has had. Our family greatly appreciates Dr Cotton for giving our daughter her hearing and letting her have a childhood again!!

When my son was 2, he had tubes due to recurrent ear infections. After a particularly long painful infection dr cotton examined him and determined a tube dislodged and was trapped in his canal. With only a curt explanation of the details of the procedure he required me to hold down my son on a surgery table under bright lights while he attempted to extract it. As my son thrashed and screamed mommy help me as blood came from his ear I asked dr. Cotton if my son was in pain. He dismissed my question abruptly and was frustrated because i wasnt holding him steady. I tried explaining it was difiicult and upsetting for me restrainng him. Dr. Cotton abruptly stopped became exasperated and said "look mom, ive had a long day and would like to go home to my family tonight and if you aren't going to cooperate I can't help your son." Disgusted I demanded a nurse to aid in holding my son so i could provide him comfort. Dr Cotton stormed out of the room to which a nurse came into comfort and… reassure me that she would assist him. Dr. Cotton completed the procedure though I wouldnt have preferred it given his behavior. He was condescending and demeaning. My spouse and I are both lawyers and Im sure i would have more than understood any explanation dr. Cotton was willing to provide. He treated us with utter disrespect and no compassion. While I can respect his years of skill I can never overlook the treatment my family received in his care. Despite the many years since that day, my daughter, then 6 never forgot hearing her brothers screams from the waiting room. Unfortunately neither will I.
