Dr. Ronald Ralph Benz, MD

We’ve seen this doctor 3 times for urgent appointment at MGH and 3 times he’s prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection. Once we came straight from urgent care where they told us there was no ear infection. We will not see him again. We call him the “ear infection” doctor. Our kids get the flu often and go to urgent appointments with random doctors at MGH often. We’ve only had ear infections after Dr. Benz visits. In fact our regular Dr. at MGH saw the script a week later and said I would not prescribe antibiotics for someone greater than 2 even if they had an ear infection. Just had an urgent visit scheduled with Dr. Benz again and I called to make sure we get someone else. Advocate for your kids.

Terrible office. Doctor himself is OK. But the scheduling staff is rude unprofessional and has no training.

Very bad experience with him. He has no idea what he was doing. My kid was there for regular preventive care. After waiting nearly 1.5 hours, he finally see my boy, and told me my boy should do this test, that test,.... finally charges a lot of money without telling me the reasons. The preventive care should be free. I was very surprised to see the large bill after insurance.

Useless doctor don't know how he managed to practice in mgh. He rushes patients out without answering questions. He was late to our appt by 30 mins and then rushes us out in 20 mins. Very rude and extremely insensitive to different cultural backgrounds.my son toy fell at his feet refused to pick it up and I had release my son from my arms to pick it up . Does not give advice appropriately when asked a simple question abt toothpaste. Should be de listened and sent home packing. Mgh should hire young faculty and patient docs to keep up there good name. Dr Benz should spend his retirement at home. His staff the British speaking nurse is wonderful - Alison .. I Wonder why he has such a wonderful nurse working for him. Do not waste ur time with him and money

Informed him my son had bump in the rear of his head. He told me the lump was too small, and that he will check it few weeks later. Later i had to remind him to check the lump again. Then he ordered an X-ray, without checking the x-ray himself, a technician phoned me to tell me that there was nothing abnormal. Me who had no experience in the medical field, by looking into the X-rays could tell something did not look right. Went to another Doctor, he referred me to a specialist, who ordered a ct scan immediately. he concluded that a lump was there and it was growing, and there was chances , although small, that it was a cancer. A surgery was to be performed to remove then analyze the lump. thank god it was not a cancer. Wrote this to let people judge by themselves how Benz dealt with a situation that could have been fatal to my then 3 years old. Having him as the pediatrician for my kid for almost 2 years, was unpleasant for us parents, he was always rushing to get us in and out his… office , in the process he gave us no time to ask questions we came to him.

Can not image someone like him could stay in MGH and could be the PD for patients. No any useful suggestions except recommendations to emergency room to get a PD there or go for other specilists for any other issues. What a shame!
