He later attended the premier University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he served as the president of the Sigma Sigma Phi National Community Service and Honor Society and obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy. His internship at Downey Regional Medical Center earned him the "Top Intern of the Year" award. He completed his residency with the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System/UCLA Multi-Campus before returning to his beloved San Diego to practice medicine.
