Dr. Ronald Ivan Kaye, MD

My husband had been a patient of Dr Kaye for several years. Recently he did not show for an appt not intentionally , however due to our family of 3 having respiratory illness and inadvertently missing his appt. The office rescheduled him several months out and he did have to call and cancel a second appt in advance due to our 36 yr special needs daughter having concerns that needed addressing. When my husband called to cancel the appt, he explained the circumstances to a staff woman. She became somewhat annoyed and generic and told my husband she would have to ask Dr Kaye if he would still keep him as a patient after missing his appts and it being more then one year since his last appt. Now being an RN myself, I can’t imagine an office wanting a sick person coming to their appt to spread germs. Yes he inadvertently did not call to cancel. I also would not hold it against a patient if their special needs daughter required his care causing him to have to 3 days in advance cancel another… appt. The scheduler became very generic in her response which also made my husband feel he had to defend himself. He basically explained he cannot change the circumstances in which he had to miss appts and that the doctor is not the only urologist in the area. The scheduler took his conversation personal and was not open to realizing how she was coming across herself. She then spoke with Dr Kaye and my husband was released from his care due to being “ rude and aggressive “. I can confirm he was passionate and far from rude and aggressive . The staff woman really needs to reflect on how she displays her own attitude . Neither my husband nor the staff member were rude or aggressive. However, the specific needs of my husband were disregarded So yes, he did defend himself . Hardly rude or aggressively . It’s unfortunate that Dr Kaye has gotten a distorted view from a staff member who just didn’t want to take the time to listen or understand my husband’s needs. To be forthright, this isn’t the first or last time we will have to try to explain our circumstances with our special needs daughter cause our lives to be unpredictable . She is 36. We are used to it by now. Dr Kaye is a very good doctor. It’s unfortunate that his staff person giving him a distorted view on a conversation that took place allows him to decide to drop a patient. Of course we I’ll find a new doctor. However, on behalf of Dr Kaye’s medical practice , he has lost a patient for reasons that were completely unjustified. Myself being a nurse, I do know how a story to the doctor isn’t always inclusive of all events that took place. The woman in my opinion should have taken the time to understand where the frustration was coming from. Instead , she decided to give a distorted report to the doctor. Again , this is not something new to us when dealing with the requirements of our special needs daughter. We will move on and find someone new.
