she is patient enough to take the time to explain all of the processes and to provide helpful advice on next steps and overall health. she is friendly and takes the time to listen to any concerns i have.

Dr Starr is awful! Do not go see this woman if you are not pregnant and are suffering from period related issues. She was not invested in my care AT ALL. Refused to give me a hysterectomy based on her OPINION that I am "so young" (I'm 38 and married to a WOMAN). This doctor put me on birth control and had me undergo a D&C and things ended up just getting worse and worse. Because of her I suffered over 6 months of a non stop period. After dropping this crappy "doctor" I went to Northwestern and was thankfully, finally given a partial hysterectomy. Turns out, I was what my new doctor called "in bad need of a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis." She said I had tons of scar tissue and that my uterus was smashed and pushed back and that she can imagine my periods were awful, which they were. Doctor Starr caused me much suffering for no reason other than she is a quack. Stay away.

Dr. Starr delivered my son, she was amazing. She also gave amazing prenatal care.

I feel like I was lied to and deceived by my own doctor. I am so upset I can barely put it into words. I really liked Dr. Starr. I've only had a few gyno doctors in my time, but I liked her the most. That is, until my last "routine" visit... when I got a $350 bill in the mail. Yep.. THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. That amount is 40% of my insurance premium for the ENTIRE YEAR. I got this lovely surprise bill after my latest visit, which was a routine, 100% covered, preventative visit. Little did I know that the testing Dr. Starr sent me to get was not part of my "routine visit" and would be billed separately, under some other secret billing code. There was absolutely no warning from her that this wasn't part of my routine visit. In fact, she told me that she typically sends women my age for this sort of thing and she recommended that I get it so she could have some results "on record" for me. Dr. Starr: Do you honestly think I would have agreed to receive a $350… bill from my otherwise 100% covered visit??? How would you feel receiving a bill like this? Yes, I recognize that it is not the doctor's responsibility to know each patient's insurance benefits. But, it IS the doctor's responsibility to tell their patients what they are sending them for, and to provide a warning that it will be billed differently than the rest of the visit. ESPECIALLY when that visit is supposed to be free to the patient. I have now spent hours on the phone with my insurance company, the laboratory, and Dr. Starr's office... all of whom could barely help me because none of them communicate with each other or have "access to those records." In the end, I was told the bill is not changing and it's too bad that the services I received were not part of the routine visit. Oh, and according to the billing department, apparently this has happened to other women, as well. I guess Dr. Starr just doesn't care about the outrageous bills she exposes her patients to. This feels like legal robbery. I don't even know how I'll pay this bill. So, if you would be upset receiving a bill for the amount of some people's rent, then stay away from Dr. Starr, or at least from any testing she sends you for!!!!!

I'm giving her one star bc there isn't an option to give her 0 stars. I gave birth to a 9 lbs 3 oz baby boy and Dr. Starr was my deliver doctor bc my own doctor was out on maternity leave. I had the worst experience of my life, and almost lost my baby bc of her insensitivity and determination for me to have a natural birth. She couldn't have been more awful to me and my husband from the beginning. I was induced, and she had to break my water bc it would go on it's own. This was my first child so I trusted her to take care of me. She wouldn't allow me to get an epidural before she broke my water, and everything seemed to go downhill after this. I was in labor for about 16 hours, and during this time period she turned off my epidural, and she turned it back on after I was in the worst pain of my life. I begged her to give me a c-section and she was telling me no (I'm very petite, about 110 and 5'5). Finally, after a about 2 hrs of pushing and absolutely no progression (not to mention my… epidural has been turned off), my baby's heart rate is dropping significantly, and now SHE suggested an emergency c section. To make a very long story short, my baby was born and immediately taken to the NICU (where they took excellent care of him) and he wasn't breathing at all. Meanwhile, the anesthesiologist put me out after the baby was born (bc i was in an enormous amount of pain bc my epidural was off for so long) and i didn't get to see my baby for over 30 hours after he was born. I was so weak I couldn't get out of bed and they would not take him out of the NICU. On top of all this, I had to have a blood transfusion bc I lost so much blood and was going to be very weak for months if I didn't get the transfusion. This was extremely horrible experience, and I pray to God every single day that my baby and I both made it through this experience.

Dr. Starr's staff leaves something to be desired. They forgot to send an order for a procedure which the nurse set up which caused me a 5 hour wait - because it took them an hour to page the doctor and get the order - by which time I had lost my appointment and had to wait another 4 hours to get the procedure done. The nurse also neglected to tell me about insurance coverage and I had to come up with over $1000 in copay before they would do the procedure. The doctor did not discuss the coverage options with me - which meant I never had a chance to decide the pros and cons of having the procedure done. The worse offense in my opinion is that I never heard back from the staff after my exploratory surgery. When I called, the nurse called back and left a message saying "everything was okay" though I called and asked to leave a detailed explanation on my voicemail. I never got a copy of my test results. My primary MD eventually found my test results on the hospital's computer system - they… were never sent to her though she referred Dr. Starr. If I did my job the way this nurse did hers, I'd be fired within a week.
