Feb. 1995 Dr. Ungerleider saved my son's life at Duke. Joe was born with Downs and had an AV canal defect. I was terrified, his entire staff tried to provide me with comfort. Dr. Ungerleider's comment was, "He'd give Joe a 55yr warranty." Joe is now 26 and after moving up toward Hickory I am having a terrible time finding a ACHD doctor I have faith in without having to drive to Duke. While Dr. Ungerleider saved Joe's life I had previously lost a husband to cancer there at Duke, so trusting any physician there was going to be difficult. I am so thankful Dr. Ungerleider was there. Now I wish he could guide me to an adult congenital heart doctor.

He saved my son while he worked at Duke hospital will never be able to thank him enough

Out of all of the pediatric cardio thoracic surgeons my daughter has used Dr. Ungerleider is the best!! That's saying a lot, because all of her surgeons have been wonderful. He has an amazing bedside manner and truly cares about each of his patients.

Dr. Ungerleider is amazing. He is not only a fantastic surgeon, but also extremly compassionate towards what his patients are experiencing. I was recently diagnosed with complex congential heart disease, and needed surgical repair to fix one of the problems. I was very nervous and scared about surgery, but Dr. Ungerleider put my mind at ease. I received excellent care during my hospital stay, and would reccomend him to anyone!

A thoughtful, talented and highly respected surgeon. I have talked to others on the teams he has worked on and his reputation among those who work in the operating rooms is the best I have ever encountered. He is considered a talented and innovative surgeon who is poised, experienced and superior to most these people have encountered. He is a true national expert
