Dr. Rowan Pamela Buckley, PhD

During my first intake with Dr. Buckley, I had mentioned my struggles in finding a trusted provider over the years. She gave some great advice, to paraphrase: “It takes the first 20 minutes of an initial intake, to gauge whether or not your therapist truly cares for you. During your intake; study them, observe how they respond. If you don’t feel they have a ‘tenderness,’ rather affection for you or your story, it’s not the right fit.” She was right. Gone are the days of underworked psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists. Most providers see over 20-30+ patients a week. Private practice allows for smaller client bases and appropriate treatment plans for the individual. Heck, she could recall previous sessions better than I did. I recommend choosing Dr. Buckley not only for her experience in the field; but for her sharp attention and availability. Dr. Buckley will help you to create lasting change. She offers something more textured, something perspective changing.

My partner was diagnosed with dementia in the early stages. It was devastating. A rehab therapy clinic gave us a referral to Rowan. We went even though our first thought was what can anyone do about this? It turns out there's a lot more to do than we knew. She helped me, she helped him, and she helped us help each other. The focus was always on our relationship and not the symptoms of dementia. We're making also making some choices now that will make things simpler when only one of us can decide things. It is also making it easier now to enjoy ourselves in these moments.

When I thought of therapy, I figured the process would be passive. I would talk, the therapist would listen, I would leave and try to figure out if I was feeling any better. Time with Rowan wasn’t like that. It was an active collaboration. I always knew what we were working on and what sorts of things I would notice that would signal I was better, more myself as I imagined I could be. Best of all, it was Rowan, not me, who talked about it getting to be time to leave and do my life on my own.

Rowan is approachable, easy to talk to, listens closely. She's smart, a little quirky, and compassionate. She wanted to know me - and she does.

I was told by the second week that I would feel very different. After two years I was told more or less that my type of anxiety could only be controlled with medication. If I had known this earlier I might have gone a different route.
