We had a relative tested for autism. Testing cost over $800 and we were told that this person who had suffered over 50 years with multiple problems, had no friends, money, job, home, or resources had nothing wrong with him!!! This ruined ANY chance of this man getting assistance from the state. We took him to another clinical psychologist who diagnosed this same person within the autism spectrum. The evaluation was extensive and comprehensive according to the vocational rehabilitation counselor of the state of Illinois. This testing cost less than $200. We have since received Medicaid , snap benefits, and are now pursuing a job for this man with the help from the state.. ONLY because of the second evaluation we received from another psychotherapist. There are some people who graduate at the top of their class and some who graduate at the bottom of their class. The first evaluation was not only less than helpful, it made our situation worse. Do not ever accept ONE … opinion as the only opinion!!!!! Get a second opinion if you are evaluating someone you love who needs help. We spent $800 for absolutely nothing and would never recommend this person to anyone. I also did not like this Dr Guilliland discussing the patient's issue with me in FRONT of him! NO sensitivity there!! Not to mention awkward and uncomfortable!!
