Dr. Roy Frank Lowry Jr, MD

One of the rudest and most unprofessional doctors I've ever been to. The staff is just as bad. They rip off elderly people. I will be filing a formal complaint with the NC medical board.

After the second time this has happened I have decided to leave Dr. Lowry's practice. I called today to schedule a yearly eye exam & to have an eye problem/infection checked at the same time. I was told that I could not be seen for both things the same day. I could be checked for my eye problem one day & come back the very next day for my eye exam. What Dr. does this? I was told it was because they wouldn't get paidfrom the insurance company forthe eye infection exam if they did it at the same time as the annual exam. Obviously they wouldn't get 2 co-pays fromme & they wouldn't be able to charge the insurance company for 2 office visits but they would have been paid for anything the Dr. did directly relating to my infection. Dr. Lowry's biggest concern is getting more $, not the patients needs, convenience or cost (2 co-pays & 2 visits) when he could have addressed both issues at the same time. This is the second time he has done this & it will be the last time he puts his wallet ahead… of this patient. I fileda complaint with my insurance compnay & they came to the same conclusion I did.

This is a small man, literally and figuratively. He does not stand behind the work done at his office. Apparently he is hard to get along with because the office staff changes often and his partners never seem to stay long either. I had work done by one of his partners. I was having problems so went back to discover the partner had fled. Lowry was rude, spiteful and totally unprofessional. He refused to take any responsibility for the services I received in his office and belittled his former partner.

I don't know about the other review but every time I go to Dr. Lowry there are always new people. Their employees don't seem to stick around for very long for whatever reason. Besides that, I've been pleased with the care he's given me.

Overall I am impressed with the competency and experience Dr. Lowry has. I go to this practice primarily b/c I have a contact lens prescription. I have also had eye issues related to my contacts and he has always resolved them. I am glad he wants to impress upon me the seriousness of eye health and eye care, however, he can come across kind of alarming if you are not prepared to "hear it straight". For example, it can be scary to hear that others have "lost an eye" because of a similar condition that escalated. In reality, my eye issues have always been resolved way before they become severe. In addition, the office staff is always really nice, the optical center is well-staffed with competent and helpful employees, and it is nice to see the same faces every time I go.
