Dr. Rudolph Byrd Rustin, MD

Dr Rustin did a major surgery on me like 30 years ago. Best doctor every! I was down to 86 lbs and got lucky and ran in to him. I ask him how he got into being a GI. I remember him saying his Grandfather had Crohns I believe and that he loved his Grandfather very much. That is how he got into GI. I remember a lot more we talked about from that many years ago. For as I'm concerned he saved my life.

4 years ago I had a GI Bleed and was airlifted to UVA from NC. After multiple attempts to stop the bleed and hundreds of units of blood all the other drs had given up on me and called my family in to say good bye. Not Dr Rustin. He attempted one more time to embolize my bleeding abdominal AVM with great caution and not a lot of optimizing. That was 4 years ago this month!

Dr. Rustin did a corrective surgery on my Father recently that repaired a surgical site from an operation my Dad had over 25 years ago. The previous surgery created a massive amount of scar tissue that eventually let to a bowel blockage requiring emergency surgery. He was able to describe the repair so we all has a clear sense of what was done and moreover, how this latest operation will improve his health compared with what he'd gotten used to as "normal". We hope to follow up with Dr. Rustin as my Father's healing progresses.

Greatly missed by many of us.

Trueful, caring, great at what he does to a patient. He doesn't lie about a procedure before performing it.

Waited in an empty waiting room for 1+15 hours and could not find any office personnel to find out why. Finally got up and left. When I got home I called the practice and asked to speak to the office manager. She had no sympathy for what happened and said she would look into it. 3 months later I got a letter from Dr. Rustin which I thought was an apology and he actually told me I was no longer welcomed at his practice because I demanded too much of them..I think it was convenient for him to drop me because I was a Medicare patient and he felt the reimbursements were too low. Very sad ethics

After waiting more than an hour to see the doctor for my hemorrhoids, he examined me and then told me, "Come back when they're really bad." That was it, my appointment was over! I left and was about to turn around and come back in to tell him, "Here I am, now they're really bad!" Instead, I thought, who needs a doctor like that, so I left. I went to see another doctor who told me I had stage 3 hemorrhoids and that he would band them. He couldn't understand why Dr. Rustin didn't do rubber band ligation. I figure he wanted to wait until they were so bad that the only alternative was to have surgery!
