Dr. Ryan M. Ilgenfritz, MD

Dr..Ilgenfritz is very kind. But I feel he still needs more experience with alternative ways to treat scoliosis beyond surgery. Our daughter came there last year and had a pretty steep curve He recommended surgery and was ready to schedule. We got a second opinion with Dr. Woo and she has been in a brace for the past year. Not only have her curves corrected more than 5 degrees already, but we are no longer expected to even need surgery if she keeps wearing the brace. Furthermore, she is young and doing a spinal fusion may have caused her to "corkscrew" as she grew, as the spine will be fused, but the rest of the body will continue to grow and want to torque in on itself. Dr. Ilgenfritz is very nice, but it may really help to do some further research on what a difference a brace can make. Spinal surgery is a big deal, and depending on the patient, it may not actually be necessary! Wearing a brace requires diligence, but with modern fashions, you honestly can't tell she has it on. If… you're a mom or dad reading this, please know there may be other options. Our daughter's curve was 50 degrees. Not anymore.

He was respectful, had good bedside manners. I needed surgery and within 2 weeks of meeting with him I got scheduled for the surgery.
