Dr. Salem Jad Makdah, MD

AGGRESSIVE WITH 90 YEAR OLD PATIENT! Wish I could give a zero. My mom was assigned this doctor in a rehab center. This man went against PATIENT RIGHTS and tried to prescribe a heart medication without consulting my mom's cardiologist. When my mom refused the medication he threw his tablet on her bed and told her she needed to take it. He was beet red and his aggressive mannerisms and demanding angry voice were out of line. Major God complex. My mom called my sister and he talked to my sister who also told him to consult the cardiologist and he said "I'm a doctor, I don't call other doctors asking their opinion" and then hung up on her. Prescribing a heart medication for a cardiac patient without an EKG is reckless. Our first interaction with him weeks ago was when she had UTI symptoms - he would not test and would not treat even if positive. She was slurring her words, urinary and bladder pain, and out of sorts. We went around him and got her primary doctor to treat the E-Coli UTI, and… low and behold her speech returned to normal and so did her mental cognition. This is the treatment for a 90 year old with 2 months of rehab to complete? When you go on the Northwestern Medicine website he has a 4.8 rating. NOT A CHANCE! When you look at all the doctor ratings on the NW site they all have a 4.8-5.0. Seriously rigged. Keep yourself and your loved one away from this guy. Luckily my mom is still sharp enough to know she has a right to refuse treatment!

If I could give a rating of ZERO stars that is what I would have chosen. Most condescending bedside manner I have ever witnessed. We had to follow up with a different Dr 2 days after seeing him as he never even examined my Mother and just gave her a prescription for pain pills after hearing her symptoms. Her symptoms definitely warranted further testing and he laughed in her face as he dismissed everything she said. I wouldn't let this Dr treat my dog let alone a family member again!

This man isn't qualified to be called "doctor." He was my mother's primary dr for approx 2 years but she saw a NP who made home visits. Mom went into Palos Hospital in 2020, she finally met him. She asked me to call him bc he wasn't answering her questions. I was keeping track of her tests. I asked him to explain the bilateral pleural effusion on her chest x-ray to me...he hung up on me! He kept pushing to send her to a rehab center but I was telling him she needs to see a hematologist for tests while she's in the hospital (she has macrocytic anemia and had 1 unit of blood and an iron infusion while there). He adamantly refused to allow a hematologist despite her low platelets & weird blood cells & my requests, & Makdah yelled at me over the phone. I finally got one to see her that she saw a few years prior. She was given a dx of myelodysplastic syndrome by the hematologist. I had to fight this poor excuse of a human to get what mom needed while she was under his "care." Makdah is a… greedy, cold, cruel megalomaniac who does NOT care about patients. I wish I hadn't just re-read my notes from that time. He still disgusts me even a year later.

He is a very helpful doctor....

This man is a great doctor especially when I really needed a doctor.

Dr. Makdah is a caring and loyal physician, laughs easily and always puts one at ease. No putting on of airs and always down to earth. He has a great capacity for listening.

Dr. Makdah is a great doctor! He is very compassionate and cares about his patients as if they were his own family. My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Makdah for more than 20 years and he has always taken excellent care of us. He will spend as much time as needed to help you and he always has a smile and makes you feel at ease. Anyone would be lucky to have Dr. Makdah as their doctor. He is truly the best!!!
