Dr. Samantha M. Dunham, MD

This review is for all menopausal women. I am updating my last review of Dr Dunham. I was recommended to see her 3 years ago & she advised (re: pressured) me to go off my low dose patch of estrogen immediately & replace with an anti depressant. She told me I would develop breast cancer and/or die with a heart issue. I subsequently saw a doctor who felt differently & dropped Dunham My new GYN & I determined that (Dunham) removed HRT bc it was a liability to her practice. My new GYN & I discussed all the pros / cons plus all studies of HRT and determined that it more positive than negative for post menopausal women. Now as of today, the FDA has reversed guidance on the use of HRT. I’m writing this bc I think even Dr.s have ulterior motives for prescribing or not prescribing medication. Listen to yourself.

I was recommended to see Dr. Dunham by my nurse practitioner. I am menopausal in excellent health taking a low dose of HRT patch. After a long appointment in which she scared me about my heart health (my cardiologist agreed that she was an alarmist) she advised me to lower the dose & substitute with an SSRI (a new anti depressant with significant side effects). She said for me to “think about it”. I agreed that I would and she proceeded to pat herself on the back for giving me a “long appt time” - which was actually based upon her questions. I came away with skepticism of her & sure enough she proceeded to pull all the prescription meds on my chart without my knowledge or consent Any dr knows you cannot abruptly stop medicating. After writing to her for days on the northwell health website (she ignored my messages) I had to call the office desperate for her to undo decision that was made without my knowledge. I don’t think this Dr should be counseling pre- or post menopausal women as… she seems to be more concerned with the practice liability than the actual patient. Found her cold and condescending

I saw Dr. Dunham yesterday after a few years. I put traveling to city off for awhile. She is excellent. She knew a rare condition that I have. Not many Drs are familiar with it. She was so professional, kind and compassionate. I'm so happy I went back to city and didn't change physicians.

Dr. Dunham is very aloof and does not take time to review medical records or history. Not thorough and a bit condescending. Also horrible about patient follow up and calling with results or responding to messages. Poor form to send someone for more testing after an abnormal finding and then NEVER follow up with them on results of that test. Unimpressed with the practice as a whole. Difficult to connect with a person. They rely solely on their electronic communication and look at things in a vacuum. Really ... can't imagine sending anyone to this practice and particularly this doctor.

I have had nothing but excellent experiences with Dr. Dunham for the past four years; yes, she's hard to book an appointment with but that's because I think a lot of patients want to see her. Exams used to be uncomfortable but not with her. I have recommended her to several friends who like her a lot. (Truthfully, I I was stunned to see negative reviews -- a lot seem to be posted in a clump, perhaps by a single patient with an axe to grind.)

Dr. Dunham is an excellent physician! Her impressive knowledge and experience is in harmony with her gentle bedside manner, which can be hard to come by in an academic setting such as this.

Fabulous doctor. Dr. Dunham is very thorough and has your best interest. She come for a place to help and support, and not judge. Highly recommend.

While dr dunham is great, the nyu langone center on e 34th is run poorly resulting in excess waiting times. It's also hard to get an appt.

An uncompassionate, arrogant, distant, insensitive & non-communicative doctor. Whatever happened to patient "care"? We are not just a piggy bank for doctor's to feed their egos. Maybe they are over taught during medical school, how "not to get involved" w/feelings, emotions or concerns of their patients.
