Dr. Sammy M Chitayat, MD

I went for physical exam and wanted to know results of sugar tests which is extremely high. After 5 calls I have no clue what's happening. I have to call from different phone each time as they wont pick phone with numbers they already know. This has been the pattern for past many years - just to give my lab results he want to see my face and collect insurance money and waste my time. This is something that can easily be done on phone but he will not.

Dr Chitayat has been my primary care physician for over fifteen years. I feel blessed to be under his care. He is always available in an emergency. He keeps up with professional research and has contacts with the best of specialists. Even though I moved to the Bronx, I still travel into NYC to see him.

A wonderful and caring man who puts his patients first, my issues where diagonosed properly and his extensive experience is clearly evident.

I have never written reviews about anything but I thought I share my experience with Dr. Sammy's office. Firstly , he is a Very thorough doctor! Expect to spend at least an hour of your time for your well check up . He does various testing from full bloodwork , EKG, breathing and metabolism testing. You should always ask for his technician Florance who is very knowledgable , professional and extremely proficient in her work. She is a true pleasure to talk to whenever I needed any prescriptions or questions . His other assistant Kathy however is a nervous wreck who barges in the exam room without knocking. She has walked into my room several times and once when I was completely undressed and having my EKG performed. Very rude and often complaints that she is too busy to return patients calls.Another issue I have is his receptionist. The couple that referred me to his office has switched doctors because of difficulty making appointments . She has a horrible attitude over the phone and… often very unpleasant with other patients in the waiting room. You hear the most inappropriate conversations while you are waiting and they are rude and abrupt when you ask how long your wait time is. But honestly if you are looking for a quality doctor who takes his time in making sure your health is top priority , Dr. Sammy is the right doctor for you. Just hope you get to be taken care of by his assistant Florance who will ensure all doctors orders and plan of care are well understood and will wow you with her proficiency and a service with a smile.

I was recommended Dr. Chitayat by a friend of mine who had been his patient for many years. After I saw him I understand why he was recommending him. He is the most thorough doctor I have ever been to. He listened and took his time. I have never encountered a doctor like him - I waited a half hour beyond my actual appointment time; but that is nothing compared to the time I have waited for doctors in the past. I left feeling that he genuinely cared. His Nurse Cathy & Office Manager Gemma were both pleasant and professional. Dr. Chitayat spends a lot of time with each patient which makes it worth the wait time. He's very knowledgeable. He does order an awful lot of tests, much of which my insurance didn't cover. He ordered a CT scan (which would expose me to a lot of radiation) which turned out to be unnecessary. This may be part of his being so thorough - which is actually a good thing. He's very difficult to get a hold of by phone if you need to speak with him. Doctors are busy, I don't expect a call back immediately for a non-emergency, but if I phone him twice and he never calls back even if I wait a week - that's not OK with me.

Major developments have been made in pain management. This doctor is unaware of any of them. Still thinks a narcotic prescription needs to be in triplicate. (That changed years ago.) I seriously think if pain management is an issue in your care, do not go here. Additionally, the time it takes to see him is not worth the wait.

I have been going to Dr. Chityat for two years and I keep hoping it gets better. But the waits can be 2 hours past the appointment time, the staff could care less and his diagnosis is to see a specialist.I am moving on
