Dr. Samuel Soonheng Paw, MD

Dr. Paw was my first doctor when I joined Kaiser in 2014. My experience with him was very good in the beginning. He is a doctor who has been practicing for many years. Now 3 years later, my only complaint is it is very difficult to get an appointment in a timely manner. He told me once he had 1500 patients. Is this the reason for hard to get appointments? I don't think so. Once I called for an appointment and was told he was on a medical leave for over 2 months! This is one of the reasons I will change my PD. He is very knowledgeable in his field although I feel as though he does not keep up with the latest technologies. I was told by a personal medical advisor to get a doctor who is a recent graduate, as they will have the latest knowledge under their belt. So I begin the search. Another thing, try to get an appointment in the morning, because the later it is in the day, the more you will wait and doctor time will be reduced

I have known this doctor for a little more than two years. He works for Kaiser in Redlands, California. I don't see him very often, but when I do want to see him he is not there. He is frequently on vacation. His associates saw me instead of him. When I first saw him, I noticed that he frequently yawns. I don't remember seeing a doctor in the past who so frequently yawns. He ordered some blood work on me. My cholesterol was high, but he did not order any medicine for me. Months later a nurse wrote me that he noticed my cholesterol was high and brought that to the attention of this doctor. I finally got medicine to lower my cholesterol. I saw his associates more often than I see him. There is no continuity of care. His medical knowledge is elementary, at best. But he thinks he is "God" and can make no mistake. When he saw me, he based his clinical decision on my lab result. If my lab result shows "normal", but I still feel bad or lousy or "abnormal", he thinks that I am crazy or a… complainer. He makes no serious effort to determine why I feel that way. When it comes for my annual blood test, I have to remind him. If you have to see a doctor, and no doctor is around, see a witch doctor.
