Dr. Samuel Edward Smith, MD

Dr. Smith does not rate well with this patient. I found him to be a very poor listener; he is rude and insulting. Dr. Smith decided based on a his own biases drew poor and incorrect conclusions with regard to my condition. I thought so then and I know so now. My consultation with Dr. Smith ended with the clear opinion that he could do absolutely nothing. I concur. He lost a patient that day.

Dr. Smith is an excellent choice for delicate spine surgery. He is very knowledgeable, uses the latest technology to ensure safety. He really cares about his patients and explains everything in detail.

Dr Smith did a lumbar fusion on me and my pain became increasingly worse. Several months went by and he did repeated CAT scans and told me my fusion was "solid" and there was no reason for the pain. My family convinced me to get a 2nd opinion and after a bone scan (the only test to effectively show the new bone growth that makes a fusion "solid"-Dr Smith never ordered one), I was told there was zero new bone growth and I had the fusion revised. The new Dr found 4 loose pedicle screws and the intervertebral "cage" was just hanging by a piece of scar tissue. Any qualified md will tell you there is a large failure rate with spinal fusions. That is not my complaint. Dr Smith spent 11 months telling me the surgery was successful and inferred the pain was psychological. He could not have been more wrong. He has an inflated ego as well as lacking professionalism. Unfortunately he has returned to Longmont to a new practice and I believe current and future patients should beware my story… because I am not the only person he failed. The emotional toll was and continues to be horrendous.

Dr. Smith treated our adult son following a serious rock climbing accident. We feel his decisions regarding surgery (fusing) and alternative supports enabled our son to maintain as much spine flexibility as possible to allow him to live his life on his own terms.

Did not interpret my xray. Did not do thorough assessment. Dismissed my pain and did not offer treatment. Another opinion did a full assessment and I needed surgery in a bad way.

We loved Dr. Smith!
