Dr. Sankara P Mahesh, MD

Sankara Mahesh, MD, FRCS (G) is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, anterior segment surgery, and uveitis. He serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Residency Program Director at New York Medical College, where he is actively involved in clinical care, education, and mentorship of future ophthalmologists.Dr. Mahesh's clinical expertise encompasses cornea and external diseases, ocular immunology, and complex cataract and anterior segment disorders. His areas of special interest include keratoconus and corneal cross-linking, infectious keratitis, full-thickness and lamellar corneal transplantation, complex cataract surgery, ocular surface reconstruction, custom iris implantation, and immune-mediated eye diseases.He completed fellowship training in cornea and external diseases at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
