Dr. Sara Velasco, MD

Had knee pain and swelling for over 3 months after an injury which suddenly worsened severely and radiated to my hip so I decided to finally make an appointment. Explained that I was having severe knee pain and swelling but was given an appointment for 1.5 months later and told to go to urgent care. So, I went to urgent care and the doctor there told me I needed an MRI (duh) and most likely surgery but only my primary MD could order the MRI. Spent the following 2 weeks constantly calling Dr. Velasco and being bumped around over and over. Even had to personally have the notes from the urgent care MD faxed over to Dr. Velasco only to have her secretary/nurse tell me she needed to see me on the appointment date that I had already made weeks ago. I completely understand patient load and the high demand of patient care but pain and swelling is a priority issue and all I needed from Dr. Velasco was an order especially since I had already sat in urgent care for 2 hrs to see a doctor. I am a… RN in a radiology dept. so needless to say I know what I need and really only refer to doctor's for a last, last resort when things are really wrong. Aside from that it is quite difficult to be on your feet for 12hrs a day when your knee is jacked up. Maybe this review is for health care partners as a whole not just Velasco but their triage of patients is ineffective and what I would consider as negligent. I am sure that if I were to push this to my lawyer I would have a case. I would rather continue to be in pain while I find another doctor that provides adequate care rather than wait the remanding week until my appointment.
