Dr. Sarah L Xavier, DO

Of all healthcare professionals I've ever worked this (mental-health related, or strictly medical), Dr. Xavier is the one I've trusted the most and had the most confidence in. She is incredibly dedicated to her patients and has helped me through a very difficult time in my life, when other practitioners could not. She embodies everything you'd hope for a psychiatrist to be; warm, empathetic, respectful, and unbelievably smart and qualified. She listens intently and is honest, always. I appreciate how much she works to collaborate with me on medication decisions, and how she integrates therapeutic work in conjunction with medication management. This has made me feel incredibly well-taken care of and understood. Her fee of $350 is beyond reasonable as far as private practice psychiatrists go, and SO worth every penny. I've worked with providers that were in-network and didn't receive a fraction of the care that's been provided to me by Dr. Xavier. Thank you, Dr. Xavier, for changing… my life and helping me to grow and flourish this past year. You've given me back a piece of myself and I'm forever grateful!

Our child has been seeing Dr. Xavier for 5 months, and we have been happy with the care she has provided. It was quite easy to find someone to see our daughter for regular counseling, but after some time it was clear she needed further evaluation. We quickly found that finding a child psychiatrist that accepted insurance was impossible--either no patients were being accepted or there were wait lists. We walked into this knowing that our insurance wasn't going to cover the fees, and these would be out of pocket costs. There have been a few comments re: fees for service, but that is what they are, fee for service, not copays which are remarkably less. In our opinion, Dr. Xavier's $350 appointments are well worth the money--not only for her professional expertise, but also the outcomes we've witnessed as she's cared for our daughter. She is insightful, asks questions to gain greater perspective of behaviors and activities; she also considers the input of us as parents. Our … daughter had been seeing her monthly, but the interval between appointments is gradually being extended as she has become stable on her new medication. Dr. Xavier is very responsive to emails when sent through the patient portal, and on two occasions when our daughter's appointments did not line up with her last med dose, she filled them in a timely manner so there were no gaps in treatment. We are so pleased with the additional medication management Dr. Xavier is providing--our daughter's mood is stable and generally she is a happy kid. One year ago, she was struggling in school with her peers and we were concerned our daughter would need a higher level of care than we or her school could provide. Today? We couldn't be happier--she is a teenager--we have other teenagers--she is right in line with how 'normal' teenagers behave. Today, however, she is not blatantly disrespectful, she does not exhibit the anger and frustration she used to, she has goals, is thriving academically and socially, and is simply in a much better place than we could have ever imagined to take on the normal challenges in life. All this considered, if you can afford it (or perhaps even if you can't), $350/visit is a small price to pay for our daughter's wellness, the sanity of our household, and the heartbreak we have been spared when our daughter struggled.

Please understand that any child who is started on a new psychiatric medication is at risk for side effects and therefore must be evaluated prior to a medication refill. Please understand that all documents that are submitted to the office are reviewed thoroughly by the physician between session one and session two. At the start of the session, the physician offers to create a sheet for the insurance company so the client is able to receive reimbursement. My daughter was seeing this dr for couple of months. The doctor was not accepting our insurance so we paid a pretty large fee of $350 every time my daughter visited her. Finally we were able to find an in-network physician and scheduled an appointment with her. A week prior to that appointment my daughter ran out of her Prozac and called the pharmacy for a refill. The pharmacy called dr Xavier’s office who denied the prescription. Since the new doctor still hasn’t seen my daughter she would not be able to prescribe, thus leaving my daughter without her medication. Missing a doze would cause a withdrawal and worsen a depression which Dr Xavier had been paid to treat. In her disappointment of loosing a lucrative patient this doctor forgot that her medical license is not just to print money but take care and help her patients. It is a medical malpractice to abandon a patient before a new plan of care is established. Our physician friend in NYC will be calling this prescription in. We are… also considering filing a complaint with OPMC and licensing authority.

I was worried about my child until I met Dr Xavier who really helped him turn things around. She has Knowledge and experience you don't find every day. Dr. Xavier listened to not only my son but to me also and helped us both learn how to deal with our issues. Couldn't be happier!! Thank you Dr Xavier!!

My husband and I met with Dr. Xavier for an initial consultation on behalf of our daughter, who has several previously diagnosed conditions. In addition to not having read the extensive paperwork I filled out through the Patient Portal prior to our appointment, Dr. Xavier was brusque and condescending in person. Her first comment upon our arrival was "How will you be paying for the session today?" Our 45-minute, $350 session was not nearly enough time to give Dr. Xavier a thorough clinical picture of our child. Had she read the family, medication, and hospitalization histories I had provided prior to the appointment, our time (and money) would have been spent much more efficiently and would have left Dr. Xavier much more prepared for her initial visit with our daughter. We had such high hopes for this doctor and were sorely disappointed.

Dr Xavier is highly knowledgable. Extremely helpful with my young child's needs. Takes her time at every appt and very empathetic and helpful towards our family. She's always on time and I highly recommend her to any concerned parent!!!
