Terrific Dr with a caring staff devoted to their patients care. Proton treatment does not destroy as much good tissue as conventional radiation. Medicare pays for proton treatment. Check your options before seeking treatment. Have a 2nd opinion at Ackerman before proceeding.

We feel very blessed to have been referred to Ackerman Cancer Center. From the very first phone call their attentiveness and concern for making us comfortable with the entire process was very evident. My wife called them on a Saturday afternoon not knowing if she would even be able to talk with anyone. Dr. Perkins answered the phone, listened to her describe what I was going through and told us to come in that Monday and gave her a time and told her we would be able to meet with their staff. Then, the very next morning – a Sunday morning – we got a call from them telling us exactly what would be happening on our visit the next day, who we would be able to meet with and made us feel so very comfortable. Over the next few weeks of receiving radiation treatments, always followed by time with the nurses and/or any one of the doctors or other staff we realized the attention we got on that initial phone call was just a glimpse of the attention, compassion and concern for our health and… well-being that all of these wonderful doctors, nurses, technicians and office staff provide 100% of the time! All questions were answered to our satisfaction and the overall plan for working with my prostate cancer was always clear and understandable. Dr. Ackerman is very easy to talk with, as are each of the wonderful doctors we worked with. Each doctor shows great concern to make sure your questions are answered and that you are comfortable with the program and you never feel like you are ‘just another patient’. Everyone calls you by your name and makes you feel like they have been waiting just to see you that day. My experience with receiving radiation therapy was always enjoyable and great care was taken by staff to make me and my wife at ease. Everything is under one roof. No bouncing around from one place to another. I look forward to continuing my care program with Ackerman Cancer Center and cannot think of a more wonderful place to be when you have been diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Ackerman and his team thought out side the box and gave my mother 10 more months than expect from her initial diagnosis. Their care and compassion surpassed my expectations. The facilities and staff gave us easy for her as a patient and my family as care takers during this time as we managed one of the most difficult situations of our lives. Thank you for everything.

Amazing doctor.

When you are diagnosed with cancer that is BAD news. Your mind makes you seek the best advice for treatment and a cure. Those answers are not easy to find when the clock is ticking on you which makes the search intensive. For once, your mind can visualize the end. After the first visit with Dr. Akerman, I saw a ray of hope on a personal and professional level that was very encouraging. In addition, this attitude of "we will do whatever is necessary to restore your personal health" was transmitted to his staff who performed on a very high level of competency and professionalism. This attitude transmitted GOOD out of a bad situation. I highly recommend Dr. Akerman and his professionally trained staff.

I received my diagnosis and surgery elsewhere--but couldn't get good answers on treatment options. Very, very glad I did the work to get other opinions and arrived at proton therapy with all its advantages. But the real advantage of Ackerman is the complete seamless program of care-- down to chocolate chip cookies in the waiting areas--and the incredible staff, seamless including financial, scheduling, social work, dietary-- all in very soothing surroundings.

Ackerman cancer center what can I say?, the staff is AMAZING in every way! From the friendly welcome at the door, those gals I adore! To the radiation specialists what a team they make fighting cancer a dream, from there friendly smiles to there loving ways, I know I’ll make it I’m here to stay. To the Dr’s and Nurse Practitioners, who have made my plan, God gave you smarts to know what to do right from the start! The social workers are great and can’t be beat, as they do it all to help me stay on my feet! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart because without your love and care I couldn’t share this poem of gratitude from ME to YOU!

Dr. Ackerman is very informative - he explained exactly what he had planned for the treatment process - 35 sessions. The treatment worked exactly as planned.. He has assembled an outstanding staff to operate the equipment and provide other consulting services, such as Nutrition, and weekly status reviews. Everyone that I came in contact with was very professional, capable, pleasant and caring. The staff created an atmosphere of confidence that this rather scary problem could be solved. In other words, they provided Hope for those of us who were dealing with this for the first time. The Proton Beam treatment concluded on December 13, 2017 and we are now in the follow-up phase. Highest marks for the entire staff!

I found Dr. Ackerman to be highly progressive in his knowledge about prostate cancer. There are only 25 centers in the U.S. that offer proton radiation therapy.
