Dr. Scott A. Boruchow, MD

Dr. Borochow offered me two diagnostic procedures. One was more definitive but might not be covered by insurance; the other carried a risk of a false negative. I chose the first option and asked that an authorization request be submitted. According to both the Austin Radiological Association (ARA) and my insurance company, the request was filed on a Friday. They further stated that the following Monday a notice was posted to the medical portal indicating that additional clinical information or a peer-to-peer consultation was required by end of day Thursday, or the claim would be denied. Dr. Borochow told me that he did not receive this notice and, in fact, was not made aware of it until the Thursday deadline. He attempted to contact the insurance company at approximately 4:00 p.m. that day but was unable to obtain a peer-to-peer consultation due to the late hour. He later told me that the consultation occurred the following day and that the authorization was denied because the… response deadline had passed, even though, in his words, the insurance physician agreed the procedure was “appropriate and necessary.” At a subsequent visit, Dr. Borochow became angry when I mentioned the discrepancy between his account and the records provided by ARA and the insurance company. However, he did agree to file an appeal, which, in my estimation, appeared likely to succeed. He asked me to provide the steps required to do so. I contacted the insurance company, and the agent offered—very generously—to contact his office directly to explain the appeal process, removing me as an intermediary. She did so. Several days later, Dr. Borochow informed me that the insurance company was too difficult to work with and that he would not be filing the appeal. I am not accusing anyone of wrongdoing, and I understand that insurance companies can be challenging to deal with. That said, Dr. Borochow was quick to anger during factual discussions, interrupted me as I explained my understanding of events, and was brusque in ending our conversations—behaviors I consider unprofessional. The final fact remains that he told me he would file an appeal and then declined to do so. As a result, I am seeking a new physician.

Dr. Boruchow is a great doctor. He’s the type of doctor who will not band-aid a problem to move to the next. I true put all my trust in this doctor.

I can't say enough about the treatment I received from Dr. Boruchow. His diligence and willingness to diagnose and explore my sudden mobility loss resulted in life-changing treatment. Even during the covid-19 shuttering of many doctor's offices he went the extra mile, and we will always be thankful!

I found Dr. Boruchow to be exceptional. He is very bright and attentive and helpful. I couldn't ask for better treatment or experience! I also found his assistant, Thomas, to be very friendly, efficient, and professional.

I had the exact same experience as the previous person giving the review. If you don't respond to the treatment or Rx the way he expects, he gets frustrated and acts like it's your fault. The worst part, is that he won't consider anything else. I'm stuck with 2 medications and I'm still in a huge deal of pain. Every time I began to speak, he interrupted me. It became so frustrating that I finally continued to talk. I spoke one sentence and into the second sentence, he snapped at me to be quiet...wow! He sounds visibly frustrated when you ask any questions and talks down to you. He had a possible diagnoses and when I asked if it's something that is chronic or typically something that could go away, he snapped that he doesn't have a crystal ball. I was just asking a general question about the specific ailment, he brought forward. He was obviously having a bad day, but unless he's talking 90% of the time, he loses all bedside manner. He doesn't listen to a single word you say. … I'm getting a new doctor. No one should have to pay for this type of experience.

Dr. Boruchow is very smart and knows what he is doing as long as you fit into the medical "box" he thinks you should be in. If you do not agree with or respond to the normal treatments for your illness he will not be happy. The first two times I saw him he was ok but as my case became more complicated he started to become upset with me during my visits as if it was somehow my fault that I was not responding to the treatment. I brought a family member this last time and he still became confrontational with me. I will be looking for a new Neurologist.
