Dr. Scott Charles Carroll, MD

I worked with Dr. Carroll for many years. He prescribed me lithium and kept raising the dose until I was at the max legal limit at which point he went before a judge to get special permission to be able to increase my dose even further. At the beginning of each session, he would have me try to hold both of my hands out steadily to look for a "lithium tremor" which I never had and upon seeing this he would conclude that my dose wasn't high enough and raise it further. He checked my lithium level with bloodwork a few times but usually just went off of the lack of a tremor in my hands. At the peak of my dosage, I was on 2400mg of lithium per day. He always said my body just naturally filters it too fast for a normal dose and attributed my need for high dosages to my "rockstar kidneys". I had to drink a gallon of water every day just to offset the dehydration from the lithium (it's a salt). My behavior was under control and I was so numb that nothing mattered to me (because nothing could).

Dr. Carroll provides excellent support for my teenage son. He is truly engaged and caring.

As a concerned parent, I have major misgivings about Dr. Caroll's commitment to care. I can confirm that he pushes his power into play whenever he is questioned about his decisions made in error, whenever he has the confidence of one parent and will not take your calls after the age of consent, regardless of the seriousness of his medication choices. He dropped out of sight for months and then surfaced at Presbyterian. In the field of mental health, I have heard tales of continued layer upon layer over-medication practices, one tried to undo another's side effects without regard for the whole child or alternative directions. He is that kind of physician. His role in the psychiatric health of children should be taken with caution.

He is the best

I was a patient of Dr. Carrolls for many years. He would not allow me to be a part of my own healthcare, even after I turned 18. Almost every time I saw him, I needed a new medication in his opinion. Constantly changing and experimenting, I got sick of being a guinea pig so I finally switched doctors. He thought I could maybe become a art teacher or a professional student, but I would not be able to hold a job or have functional relationships, very bleak outlook for someone in their teens. Please be cautions of who you let care for your child. Consider the effect that someone with authority, that they trust can have on their self esteem and how they see their future.
