Dr. Frederick Scott Gray, MD

I called the offices and requested a Back Specialist for some pain I was having. I was told Dr. Gray was an expert in this area and he'd be able to properly diagnose me. Dr. Gray was a nice man but with all due respect, he didn't come off as very knowledgeable when it came to the back. I had to get multiple sets of X-Rays because the nurses didn't even know where my pain was to begin with (they got lower back X-Rays when the pain is in my upper back) and Dr. Gray proceeded to review my X-Rays saying he "thinks" there is nothing wrong. He proceeded to indicate that he wasn't sure what was wrong with my back and he prescribed me Physical Therapy at their in house facility. I expressed my disinterest in PT and asked if there were any other solutions, In the past for similar issues I have gotten cortisone shots, prednisone tapers, etc. I was simply looking to discuss whether there was alternative treatments. His answer was "deal with the pain" Dr. Gray was bouncing between 3-5… patients at the time and clearly wasn't invested in my problem. It wasn't until I saw a Chiropractor that I realized Dr. Gray was NOT a back specialist, despite his office leading me to believe he'd be knowledgeable in this area. I'm sure Dr. Gray makes a great foot/ankle doctor when he isn't juggling 5 patients, but I will never be going back to their offices again. I was disgusted with the care I received and left frustrated.

Dr Gray took care of me when I broke my right upper arm. His treatment was conservative and supportive. He listened well, and gave me the information I needed. After 7 weeks I went to the on-site Physical Therapy practice and was very pleased with treatment there as well.

He interrupts everything you say, won't let you talk. Gave me a brace because I could barely walk on painful ankle. Tried to tell them they were giving me the wrong size (even the manufacturer's size chart says so), he interrupted and insisted. Brace hurts worse because it doesn't fit right. Called them up, they said someone would call. Didn't. Called again, she read me a message in the system saying I didn't HAVE to wear it, it was for support. WELL WHAT ABOUT THE PAIN??? Offered me another appointment. No thanks. Will go to a better doctor, not wasting more time and money on this one.

Dr Gray is arrogant, full of excuses and untruthful. His 3 minute or less appointment are spent pushing extra xrays, which is in his office, $$$, and the physical therapy also in his office and he owns, again $$$, no guidance, no results.

Dr. Scott Gray was the most arrogant physician that I've ever encountered, and I highly question his medical judgement and abilities. As opposed to a physical exam, he didn't even examine the area and immediately said that there would be an X-Ray. I asked if he could examine first in order to determine if an X-Ray were medically necessary. He said that he can only diagnose with an X-Ray because otherwise "he has one hand tied behind his back". I declined the X-Ray since I felt that it wasn't medically necessary, especially without at least a physical exam first. His response to simply declining an xray was truly outrageous, and it was evident that he was either unwilling, or not medically trained, to do an effective physical exam. I asked him other questions about the physical issue that I came for that day, and he was unwilling to answer any questions or look at another area of the legs that I wanted examined because he said that he couldn't do anything without first doing an… xray. He even said that it was unethical and not legal to diagnose without an xray; as someone with training in this field, I'm quite aware that it is neither unethical nor illegal to do a physical exam without an X-Ray! It's difficult to fully convey the extent of Dr. Gray's arrogance in this review, but it was the most frustrating experience that I've ever had with any physician. A few days later, I instead went to a different orthopedic doctor and had the extreme opposite experience. The other orthopedic doctor actually examined the area (which Dr. Scott Gray refused to do without first doing an X-Ray). Without me even mentioning or asking about an X-Ray, the other orthopedic doctor said that it wasn't necessary to do an X-Ray. In the end, Dr. Scott Gray wasted my time, my money (insurance co-pay), and my health insurance company's money. Because I went with my instinct and declined the X-Ray, there was no exposure to an unnecessary X-Ray and it didn't cause a waste of money from an unnecessary test. I would guess that Dr. Scott Gray is so forceful with pushing X-Rays because either (a) he's not trained to do a physical exam and is reliant on x-rays, (b) he enjoys the money that he makes for each X-Ray and diagnostic procedure, or (c) a combination of both. The experience with Dr. Scott Gray makes me question his medical judgement, and due to his personally-communicated inability to diagnose without an X-Ray, I would be highly suspect about his abilities to accurately diagnose or treat conditions.

I really can't say enough about Dr Gray who did my knee surgery 10 days ago. I have had the knee operated on before but what was done wasn't done correctly. I have literally had no pain from the surgery, I am 68 years old and my knee feels like it did when I was 16 years old. Also it would be good to say that every aspect of the surgery before and after was explained by Dr Gray himself.

Bad experience. Dr Gray did not allow enough time for the swelling from my injury to heal before performing surgery. This caused my skin to need a wound vac to aid in healing. I also needed to see a plastic surgeon. While at the plastic surgeons office the nurse asked who did my surgery. When I told her it was Dr. Gray she said "oh, he does that to a lot of his patients." Dr Gray did a bone graft that turned out to be a non union. I scheduled an appt with another surgeon. Gray found out & reprimanded me, raised his voice and said it was wrong to go behind his back to seek another opinion without his consent. He said dr/patient relationships are built on trust & that I just broke his trust. Gray wanted to do an ankle fusion and said there is no other option. He also said that I would walk with a limp because I lost length in my leg. I found a Dr at HSS who fixed the faulty bone graft and the leg discrepancy. Dr Gray seems qualified to fix simple fractures but if you have… something more complex he is not an expert. I'm thankful that I listened to my intuition and did not have the fusion that Gray said was unavoidable.

The most experienced and skilled foot and ankle surgeon in the area. I had a terrible experience with another one in Danbury and was so lucky to see Dr. Gray. He was able to diagnose the problem immediately while the other foot and ankle surgeon was arrogant and rude. I would tell everyone to see Dr. Gray- He helped me and I'm telling everyone to go see him!

? until you really need him...I called in severe pain re: back injury he previously treated. Requested an appt & presc. refill. Was not called back re: the script but the appt was booked in 1 week (soonest)(2days a wk in office). I called hrs later & was told my request for a refill was denied 'til I see him (1week)(no call 2me) Upset & suffering I asked he call within 1.5 hrs, so I could discuss the pain or I would pick up files & find another Dr. He called and said "come pick 'em up". When I explained I was in severe pain & barely slept the night before he didn't want to hear it or care, would not let me speak, explain & offered no concern, CARE (as in healthCARE) or the courtesy to listen."come pick up the files" & hung up. I understand being cautious prescr. pain meds but my last prescription was one weeks supply 3+ months ago. As to his competancy as a doctor, he started nice but never helped the problem. "try therapy". Find a Dr who cares & remembers the oath he swore to... … if you have read this you can't say you haven't been warned...find another Dr....
