Dr. Scott Hanneman, PhD

I have seen my fair share of psychologists. I could easily compare my search for a reliable therapist to one's quest for the perfect pair of shoes. Good fit, goes with anything, puts up with whatever crap I'm currently walking through, I think you get it. My (amazing) psychiatrist gave me his name. She's well versed on all things 'me' so, while skeptical, I made an appointment. In short, he's not going to feed you what you want to hear. The truth isn't always fun or pretty so be prepared, it gets real. In the end, I'd rather leave a session sad or conflicted after dissecting my emotions than skipping because some di*ck dragging a body spent an hour of my life spoon feeding my ego. As long as I'm not planning on hurting myself or another human (I'm pretty sure animal sacrifices are okay as long as it's ritualistic. Falls under religious freedom/Fifty shades of cray amendment) he will not judge. If he did I wouldn't care anyway. If you're reading my 'review' it's obvious why I need this… guy. I have zero filter. I've tried my hardest to get a read on him after saying something many would deem politically incorrect...nothing. If I saw him sitting at a poker table, I'd hand him my money and go catch a show. His poker face is on point. It's not an 'I don't care' face, it's more like 'I've had Cinemax my whole life, I've watched it after midnight, nothing shocks me anymore'. I'm comfortable enough with him that there really isn't anything I wouldn't share. I am 100% me during my time and if he's not 100% himself then his side hustle should be acting. I like that he's genuinely concerned about what happens to me as a fellow human after I leave. He probably cares what happens to me more than I do sometimes. I watch the clock more than he does. That's refreshing considering I've had therapists who called out time remaining more than Ted Allen on Food Network's show 'Chopped'. Intellectually he can hold his own. Also refreshing. It's worrisome when I have to explain norepinephrine's half-life to a pharmacist so it's comforting to know he doesn't have to Google sight words. He maintains a well balance of professionalism while keeping casual type setting. He discusses treatment options versus telling me how he does things. I appreciate this approach because treatment should be customized on a patient by patient basis and Scott embraces my input instead of treating my preferences/ideas as a challenge. That and he's figured out I like a good challenge, him feeding into my resistance only fuels the fire. Bottom line, if you want an approachable, trustworthy, and sincere therapist/psychologist who doesn't treat you like a chart number Scott is a cool guy worth an hour of time. I'm flawed, you're flawed, he's flawed everyone is just trying to get through this thing called life (let's get crazy! RIP Prince!) and if you're not a good match, he will help you find a doctor who is. Nothing to lose. (I think I just wrote a Match.com profile for my shrink!) Either way, if you need help please get it. I joke around to make life pallatable not to downplay Scott's ability to make a serious difference in your life. He's very good at what he does. Take that to Church...Gospel
