Dr. Scott Morioka, MD

By far the worst "so called" doctor. My primary doctor referred me to see him. He is incompetent and very unprofessional. Has no clue what he is doing. I wouldn't even trust him to change a diaper, let alone treat me. Find another doctor.

I’ve been under the care of Board-Certified, Pain Management Physicians (Anesthesiologists) for 35-years. Never have I encountered any physician as irresponsible and unprofessional as Scott Marioka. This physician is a Medical Physiologist (NOT a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist as most Pain Physicians are.) I will not trust my pain care to a “Physiologist” again. On two of my appointments, he was 2-hrs, 10-min late AND 2-hrs, 15-min late. My back is painful and sitting in the waiting room chairs for over 2-hours was misery. His staff, when asked, said this excessive wait time is “customary for him.” This alone demonstrates his lack of care and concern for his pain patients. I always try to be fair and objective when writing a physician review as I worked in the medical field for many years and understand that all physicians can have difficult days. I also know that some physicians may be burned out with “empathy fatigue.” This physician demonstrated on all three… appointments, a disregard for patient safety and health due to his refusal to consider/correlate my other illnesses coupled with the specific pain condition being treated. Not only was he uninterested of understanding how to integrate my additional illnesses into his pain management treatment plan, he refused to educate himself on my medical conditions he was unfamiliar with. His disinterest, in my opinion was directly responsible for a serious medical event that caused me to later receive urgent ER care. Even after providing the ER Physician Report to Dr. Morioka demonstrating my injury was most likely due to his required treatment plan, he demanded I repeat the same therapy that, more likely than not, caused my initial injury. I ended up “begging” him not to require me to repeat this treatment. This was humiliating and remains a painful memory. As a 100% compliant, chronic pain patient, you MUST always follow every direction of the pain management physician or risk being denied care by ALL local pain management physicians. I was fortunate to later locate an excellent Pain Management Center and Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to take over my care. Yet, I remain disturbed by the lack of care and vulnerable situation I experienced. In my opinion, Dr. Morioka has issues of concern that were obvious to me. #1- He wielded power and control over me in several ways; his excessive wait time and adamant demands to comply with his treatment plans while disregarding my knowledge and records regarding my medical history. I can only express the distinct impression that he relished exerting his control over me... or is it perhaps just female patients? #2 He exhibited an overt “gender bias” in treating this female patient. He rolled his eyes, looked at the floor, smirked and even said he “didn’t believe” a highly qualified, medical provider documentation provided to him. He was immediately defensive when I asked if he was familiar with my two rare illnesses. He refused to address the serious medical ramifications of my complex illnesses which were in conflict with his required treatment program. #3 He demonstrated a disregard of accurate medical chart documentation. Had I not read his chart notes; I would have run the risk of being denied future insurance policies I might have applied for. He documented in my permanent medical record that I was a, “Recreational Drug User,” despite the fact that I documented clearly on my intake form and personally informed him of my “38-years of continuous abstinence of alcohol, illicit drugs and any misuse of prescribed medication.” His error compelled me to write a demand letter that my permanent medical record be corrected immediately. He left the erroneous information in the chart but added a small note at the bottom of my entire record, noting this error. I remain concerned that an untrained eye looking at my record may not see the tiny note clarifying this consequential error. In Conclusion: Patients have the right to safe and effective medical care by qualified and competent providers. This “Physiologist” failed to meet a reasonable standard of care in my case which affected me financially, physically and emotionally. Be aware you have the right to review and ask for corrections to your medical chart.

Dr. Scott Morioka is very knowledgeable. He took the time to help me understand my situation what I'm facing. I felt very comfortable & would recommend others.

Dr. Morioka spent a lot of time with me; I never felt rushed or pressured, though my reason for visiting was less serious than other patients. His exam was thorough and thoughtful. He made sure to explain his thoughts and ask if I had any questions. I also liked that upon leaving I was provided with a printout summarizing the visit for my records. Would highly recommend based on my experience.

I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM CHRONIC BACK PAIN FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. I HAVE SEEN MANY DOCTORS FROM BACK SPECIALIST TO PAIN MANAGEMENT. I WAS ABOUT READY TO GIVE UP ON FINDING A DOCTOR WHO I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH AND HOW COULD HELP ME ONCE AND FOR ALL. FINALLY, THROUGH A FRIEND I HEARD ABOUT DR. SCOTT MORIOKA. HIS EXPERTISE WAS UNSURPASSED AND HIS COMPASSION SPOKE FOR ITSELF. HIS ASSISTANT WAS SO SWEET AND CARING AND THE REST OF THE OFFICE WAS SO PLESANT AND HELPFUL. I FINALLY GOT THE RELIEF, CARE, AND MOST OF TIME THE REHABILITATION I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. NOW IM BACK DOING THE THINGS I LOVE THE MOST AND ENJOY LIFE LIKE I HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE. THANKS TO DR. MORIOKA I FEEL LIKE MUCH YOUNGER AGAIN AND MY RELATIONS WITH OTHERS HAVE IMPROVED SUBSTANTIALLY!! THANK YOU DR. MORIOKA, YOUR TRULY THE BEST!!!!
