Dr. Scott Brinton Shawen, MD

My father underwent a subtalar fusion with an orthopedic surgeon at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital (Aaron Scott). He followed exactly the instructions he was given post-operatively. Following the operation, month after month the pain continued despite being told it was all part of the recovery course. As time went on, out of desperation with his pain, he followed up knowing something was not normal. Reluctantly, the surgeon ordered a CT and following his review, assured him all was well and in an arrogant fashion walked out of the exam room, never to return. Give the ongoing pain which limited his daily activity and dealing with a surgeon who took no interest in addressing the. situation, I suggested to my father he make an appointment with Dr. Scott Shawen in Charlotte. From the moment they arrived at Dr. Shawen's office, it was clear and abundantly obvious they had picked the right place. The staff was extremely friendly, professional, expedient and accommodating. Their first… impression of Dr. Shawen was the same. They immediately saw the difference from between the prior surgeon and Dr. Shawen, of which he was clearly on another level. He listened attentively never rushing my father and proceeded to have a CT done the same day, given the distance they had traveled. Upon reviewing the CT, immediately he knew what the problem was and what the solution would be. The prior surgeon (Aaron Scott, MD) failed to perform the procedure correctly (fracture was not fixated with screw), hence the severe going and debilitating pain, and failed to diagnose by his own incompetence and arrogance the clearly visible issue on the CT scan. Dr. Shawen immediately reassured my father and told him he would be fine and would no longer have any pain, but needed a repeat operation to fix the orginal issue (fracture). My parents left his office rejuvenated and exceptionally happy, having found this incredible human being and surgeon. He performed the surgery with no complications, and to date my father no longer has any discomfort and has resumed his daily activities with no pain whatsoever. Dr. Shawen's bedside manner, attentiveness and sincere caring demeanor sets the standard of excellence. Many should emulate this wonderful man. We can not begin to express our most sincere thanks to Dr. Shawen and he truly deserves the praise. From his office staff, mid-level providers and Dr. Shawen, as a patient you get the best of the best. Dr. Shawen is truly a gem and if you are looking for an exceptional orthopedic surgeon, look no further than Dr. Shawen. You will absolutely not be disappointed and you will know you are in the care of an exceptional surgeon, who may I add served our country as an Army officer with distinction. Thank you Dr. Shawen for the amazing and expert care you rendered to my father. You Sir and your staff are a class act!! I can not begin to put into words how grateful my parents for you.
