Dr. Leo Reuben Spector, MD

It took me a long time to finally be referred to a doctor that I wasn't walking out of the office frustrated. I was very happy with Dr. Spector and would highly recommend him to anyone who was dealing with any type of spinal injury.

I had a back injury in 2018. Because of severity and loss of feeling in right leg other Drs sent me to Dr Spector who worked me into his schedule. It was months before I saw xrays and understood how bad. So grateful to him and his amazing team.

I met with multiple doctors to seek advice and treatment plans for either cervical disc replacement or fusion. Dr. Spector was most helpful in offering me the pros and cons of each and allowing me to make an educated decision. Both on the surgery day and post-op, he has been wonderful and I would highly recommend.

Dr. Spector sits down, listens to you and answers your questions. Discusses all issues you have. He is a very caring doctor and concerned about your health. I would highly recommend Dr. Spector if you have back (spine) problems.

I have been having back pain for about 18 years, and a GP told me that I it looked like I had some kind of problem with my vertebrae. However, when Dr. Spector took a look at my X-rays and spent a few minutes with me...he determined that I should be fine with physical therapy, and he was right. I didn't need any treatment from him or any surgery. It was a big relief.

worst experience ever with a doctor! would not recommend him for anything! If you are seeing this guy for a workers comp claim you are screwed from the start!

I really did like Dr Spector at first. He did 2 fusions, started having pain after 6 mo. got worse , then a flank bulge began to appear. Went to PT. After realizing what was going on with the bulge, the back nerve pain was getting worse. He offered me nothing to deal with it. I was not out to cause trouble for him. I wanted answers and he wasn't able to help me. I felt on the last visit to him that he hoped he would not see me again. I was not a bad patient but needed relief. So this month I am seeing a new doctor. I do not hop and skip to other doctors. But I have no confidence in Dr. Leo Spector at this time. I left his office angry at how he treated me. Got the "brush off". Never thought this would happen. Good luck to his new patients.

Dr. Spector is such a skilled surgeon who really cares about his patients. After viewing my X-rays and MRI results, he knew immediately what was causing the severe pain in my lower back. Dr. Spector took the time to explain and patiently answered my questions. Following sugery to fuse three lumbar vertebrae, I spent five days in the hospital. He visited regularly and responded quickly to my medical needs. His follow-up since has been outstanding, and he will continue to see me for two years post-op. I highly recommend Dr. Leo Spector!

I seen Dr. Spector for chronic sciatica and low back issues. He seen me, had a MRI ran and sfter that there was nothing abnormal and I shouldn't be hurting. He reffered me to SE Pain Care. My ins at the time wouldn't pay for the pain clinic so I stayed in pain. I did get in the clinic 6 months later and had 3 injections and none worked. Dr. Park was great and sent me back to Dr. Spector who again said nothing was wrong. My GP sent me to Carolina Neurosurgery and I seen Dr. Smith. He reviewed the images and MRI report and said I had severe DDD at l5-s1 and a disc herniation, with annular tear. He ordered another MRI and it was identical and this was 11 months after. I had a discogram the next week and a CT and it was positive at l5-s1. In Jan 2011 I had a TLIF at l5-s1 and have done very well up til now. If the images and reports were the same then I would say that if Dr. Spector had not assumed I was ok and did the other test to confirm my symptoms I would have not been in pain for as… long as I was. He's very nice but treated me as if I was crazy. If I was in need of spine surgery I would consider Dr. Mark Smith at Carolina Neurosurgery. He will see and monitor you for 1 year after surgery and is very thorough in what he does.

This is one of the best surgeons that I have found and his professionalism can't be compared. This is the only surgeon of orthopedics-spine that will sit down and listen to you, goes out of his way to help you and will attack anything diligently to find the problem or diagnosis. If I had one surgeon and my life was on the line,I would want Dr. Spector by my side. He is truly gifted.
