Dr. Scott Delano Whitaker, MD

I do not recommend Dr. Scott Whitaker due to their dishonest insurance billing practices. After my dentist referred me to Dr. Whitaker for an extraction, their office called and said that my portion would be $520. At my visit, I was told my portion would be $415. When Delta Dental insurance paid, I discovered that I owed another $497 because Dr. Whitaker was ‘out of network’. I believe that Scott Whitaker’s office knew in advance that they were out of network and yet they intentionally deceived me. They had TWO opportunities to be up front with me about my insurance coverage, but in my opinion, they were intentionally DISHONEST. Granted, I should have checked with Delta Dental to verify coverage, but I mistakenly TRUSTED Dr Whitaker’s office to be HONEST. Prior to my appointment, I saw online reviews about dishonest insurance practices of Scott Whitaker, but I naively discounted them and trusted my dentist to not recommend a dishonest doctor. Had I known that my insurance was… out of network for Dr. Whitaker, I would have gone to a different oral surgeon. I was familiar with one that was in network. The extraction was ok, although I was disappointed with the aftercare instructions and lack of a call to check on my status. Also, I thought that their Tupelo office was a bit run down, with missing ceiling tiles and generally shabby. After I got my bill, I discussed their dishonest practices with their office manager, but she was adamant that it was my responsibility to verify my insurance and offered no solution. Lesson learned on my part – do not trust any provider to be honest. It’s sad.

Avoid at all cost! Shady, shady practice. Rude doctor and rude staff

Dr Whitaker did some surgery for me years ago and that is why I waited for him to return from his broken leg to have my most recent surgery. I trusted him and was happy with the results and he was courteous as well as his staff.

I was told, on the phone, my portion of the bill to have 4 wisdom teeth removed would be $956 after my insurance. When I went to the office, they said my total was actually $1699. I said I’d like to know the reason, because Whitaker had already said my wisdom teeth looked very easy to remove and he didn’t expect Any problems. The receptionist didn’t like my question, which was asked politely. Her answer was “that’s just how we coded it,” and when I said I didn’t understand what that meant, she didn’t explain further. This lack of transparency regarding pricing is one reason the medical industry is so dodgy.

HOW IN THE HECK DOES A DENTAL SURGEON WITH UR HIGHLY PRAISED BACKGROUND MISS A WHOLE DANG TOOTH&A PORTION OF ANOTHER TOOTH? CONSIDERING THE SURGERY WAS TO REMOVE ALL THE TEETH!!

The best experience with an oral surgeon. Will never use anyone else.

I have seen Dr. Whitaker several times. Each time, he explained each procedure in depth and put me at ease!! A very kind and gentle man who truly cares about YOU.
