Dr. Scotty Lane Gadlin, MD

My 21 year old daughter just moved to Athens and we were looking to establish a local ophthalmologist when scheduling this annual exam. I drove 4 hours to take and be with her for the first visit. She has an extensive visual deficit being that she had a stroke at birth and has a homonymous hemianopsia, unable to drive, and is basically legally blind. I was excited to READ that Dr Gadlin spent time with his patients serving as the technician as well as the eye Dr. HOWEVER, I FOUND THIS TO BE JUST THE OPPOSITE. The technician asked questions, did a field test, and examined her for her glasses prescription. Dr Gadlin looked in her eyes with a light and that was it. He did not even confirm her prescription. She was never even dialated, which has always been done for the last 10 - 15 years. This was the least thorough exam she has ever had. THIS OFFICE IS ONLY CONCERNED IF YOU MAY NEED CATARACT SURGERY ($$$). Very disappointed!

Dr Gadlin identified a serious vascular issue that was manifesting itself as an eye issue. I had been to two other doctors about this, including my PCP, and neither of them identified the problem or provided helpful treatment. Although it was actually not a problem with my eye, Dr Gadlin not only recognized the symptoms and identified the root cause, but knew it was an emergency! He called ahead to the ER and explained everything and that I would be there soon. Can’t thank him enough and highly recommend him.

What a kind doctor and person. He worked so hard for another doctor’s patient. He wasn’t going to give up on me and passed me back quite thoroughly to my doctor when he was once again available.

Dr Gadlin has been one of the best physicians that I have had as a patient. He diagnosed my problem immediately, recommended surgery which was scheduled promptly, gave excellent post-op care and follow-up. He even scheduled an immediate appointment when I had post-op concerns. The results of my surgery were better than I anticipated. He listens intently when you speak with him and addresses any questions. In addition he is very personable, kind, and enjoys spending a moment or two sharing a story or picture of his family. My suggestion if you are needing excellent eye care and possible eye surgery, is to make an appointment soon with Dr Gadlin as it will not be long before his schedule will be full and he will no longer be able to accept new patients! Dr. Gadlin is SO nice, thorough and professional! I cannot say enough GREAT things about him!! He was so quick in assessment and let me know all the information that I needed to in a quick and efficient manner! Then, we had a fun conversation about his kids! He is SO great! It was kind of a drive for me to get to him, but I would do it again! He's great!!

Dr. Gadlin has provided my husband and I excellent eye care for years. He recently did cataract surgery on both my eyes. The pre-surgery information he and his staff provided properly was thorough and properly set my expectations for the process, timeline and the wonderful results. Dr Gadlin is very personable and has always expressed an interest in our lives beyond just our eye health. We are very glad to have Dr Gadlin caring for our eyesight!

Dr. Gadlin performed cataract surgery on both my eyes. The results are outstanding. I couldn’t be more pleased with Dr. Gadlin and his staff. I’ve been to two other Optometrists in Athens, two at Emory and one in Augusta; Dr. Gadlin’s care is by far the best that I’ve ever experienced, and his staff is equally responsible and helpful. Recently I was in one of the Hospitals where Dr. Gadlin trained. They sang his praises as well. My wife and I have been extremely pleased with the care we have received from Dr. Scot Gadlin. He has always been available to answer any questions and takes time to make sure we understand all procedures for our eyes--cataracts, eye drops, follow-up exams, etc. He and his staff seem genuinely concerned that we are comfortable with whatever procedures are being done. I was especially happy with the exams--I have never had such thorough eye exams at any other ophthalmologist's office as I had with Dr. Gadlin!! Because I have macular degeneration, he takes extreme care in following my progress and explaining what is coming next. We are so happy to have found you, Dr. Gadlin!

I am thankful everyday for the services I received from Dr. Gadlin. Reading and driving had become more and more difficult, but after Dr. Gadln’s tests and remarkably detailed plans and options, today I’m 20/20 and very happy. Dr. Gadlin didn’t stop there but continues to fully describe and explain each step he takes in his testing and monitoring of a potential problem, and I would drive many miles to continue with his personalized care of me and other members of my family. Today was my first appointment with Dr. Gadlin and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. The doctor I used to see moved away. My glasses prescription hadn’t changed much at all this year, so luckily, I didn’t need new lenses.
