Dr. Sean Clare, MD

Shocked by this man’s poor bedside manner. He came in the room, introduced himself stood very close to the door, asked if I preferred one treatment or the other, then left. No follow up questions. With that interaction was under the impression he was just in there quick to ask that one question then he’d be back but to our surprise, that was it! I understand doctors are busy but that had to have been a 60 second interaction. Before he came in I had an abnormal lab that needed to be addressed and the NP said Dr. Clare would go over it. Never did until I asked if he could come back in but when did he said “oh I put the order in for a referral out.” And almost acted like I was in the wrong for asking… Wouldn’t that be nice to know from him instead of having to look on my chart. So disappointing. Do not recommend.

Dr. Clare came highly recommended to me as a great doctor. Due to my circumstances i was a little uncomfortable going in but Dr. Clare was very warm, kind, considerate, & detail oriented in his explanation of my current situation. In addition, his nurses were very quick to respond to messages left and answered all questions thoroughly. Anticipating an unexpected procedure, having some anxiety, Dr. Clare's bedside manner as well as walk through of the procedure was very comforting. During uncomfortable/awkward moments he helped to focus on getting you through the difficult seconds while attending to his business. I cannot Thank Dr. Clare enough for making what i felt was going to be an excruciating procedure, tolerable, quick, and performed with kindness. As you can probably already tell i am very fond of Dr. Clare and would recommend him in a heartbeat! The Power of One! Thank you for making a difference.

Dr. Clare is an amazing dr. He has great bedside manner actually cares about his patients and has delivered 2 of my children

Dr. Clare was recommended to me by a good friend of mine who had him for her twin pregnancy as I too was carrying twins, my appointment didn't go well as my angels didn't have hearts beats but Dr. Clare was very sympathetic and knew exactly what to say. He promptly scheduled me my next follow up appointments, and always made sure I did not leave with any questions or concerns. He gave me a few options after confirming my diagnosis twice and was very respectful of my choices. The waiting time was very minimal as we got in and out of the clinic at a timely manner and the staff was always nice. He was on time for my D&C procedure I needed to end up getting and was very sympathetic there too as he held my hand to comfort me in such a hard time right before the procedure . Highly recommended . I would definitely go back for my future pregnancies

Dr. Clare delivered 2 of my kids. He also gave me a hysterectomy. I was pregnant at 43 with my 3rd baby. At the same time a fibroid tumor was growing inside of me at the same time. It got to be as big as the baby at delivery. He was always so kind and positive. Assured me I would be ok. At the time of the hysterectomy, we had complications and he saved my life..I was in bad shape. I trust him literally with my life.

He is the BEST!

I cannot say enough positive about this wonderful man. He is without a doubt, one of the most honest and supportive doctors I have ever met. As a 5x gestational surrogate (who has two of my own), I've seen my share of OB's over the years. Dr. Clare is number one on my list! Thanks to him, I had a successful and amazing VBAC birth (after a traumatic cesarean delivery with the previous pregnancy/doctor) in 2010. He was so positive and supportive of my choice, I truly felt he cared every step of the way. With the following delivery, I ended up having a repeat section (also with Dr. Clare) as I developed a fibroid in my uterus, which was blocking my cervix. We did not know it at the time, all we knew was that I was a week overdue and after an entire day of letting me labor (after a very low pit induction and rupture of membranes) with absolutely no progression and a *very* high baby, the choice was made to deliver by cesarean. This is when it was discovered that the fibroid was blocking my… cervix, keeping the baby from engaging. So it truly was a necessary section for me. With the next pregnancy, I went to Dr. Clare for my first OB visit, only to sadly learn that his practice had banned VBA2C deliveries. He was again, very supportive of my wanting a TOL and said that his practice had taken a "vote" the month prior and chose to no longer do VBA2C deliveries, though he was the one and only one who did not vote in favor of this new ban (it was an insurance premium related decision on the practice's part, as a whole). He also said that had I come in a month before, that I would have been "grandfathered in" and allowed to have a TOL, since the decision had not been made at that point. We discussed my options, and he whole heartedly encouraged me to seek a provider at Alta Bates in Berkeley, where he had once practiced and which is a very VBAC friends hospital, in general. He fully believed that I was still an excellent candidate for a VBA2C, and in fact kept in touch with me via email for several months after the fact, ensuring that I found an acceptable provider who would comply with my wishes. As it turned out, I did indeed get my VBA2C with another provider at Alta Bates. I feel I owe a great deal of the thanks to him, for giving me the courage to believe in myself and my body's capability to do what it was made to do. I will never forget him!

Dr Clare delivered my baby and I was very happy with him. He is very professional and knew what he was doing. My baby was blue coming out and he handled the situation very well and my husband was very impressed by his techniques. I had a 6.8pound baby and did not tear (with my first child who was 3.15 pounds, I tore with a different practice). Highly recommend dr Clare and his colleges! Thank you Dr. Clare and everyone at his office!

I HAD THE PLEASURE OF DR CLARE DELIVERING ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN VIA CSECTION. I COULDNT HAVE BEEN MORE HAPPY WITH HIM. HE EXCEEDED ARE EXPECTATIONS AS A PREGNANT DOCTOR. I ALWAYS FELT LIKE HE CARED ABOUT MY HEALTH AND MY BABIES. HE WAS SO CALM EVEN IN MY FIRST EMERGENCY CSECTION AND ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS IN GREAT HANDS WHICH I WAS. I COMPLETELY TRUSTED HIM AND THAT HE ALWAYS HAD MY BEST INTEREST IN MIND. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO EVERYONE! I HAVE LOTS OF FRIENDS WHO ALSO SEE HIM. HE IS SO NICE AND TRULY IS AMAZING AT WHAT HE DOES. MY THREE CSECTIONS WERE DONE BY THE BEST, I HEAL SO QUICK AND HAVE NEVER EVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY SCAR ETC. I LOVE DR CLARE...HE REALLY IS LIKE FAMILY TO ME...AFTER ALL, HE WAS THE FIRST ONE TO HOLD MY CHILDREN! ALSO HE ALWAYS MADE TIME FOR ME IF I HAD QUESTIONS OR WHEN HE WAS ON CALL, & I WAS IN L&D FOR A CHECK, HE ALWAYS STOPPED BY TO CHECK ON ME. ALWAYS. I HAD PRECLAMPSIA WITH MY FIRST AND PRETERM LABOR WITH MY THIRD AND HE WAS GREAT WITH HIGH… RISK. LOVE HIM!!

My wife and I arrived at the hospital at 1PM. Dr.Clare was the only doctor on call, so he was notified that we had arrived. Dr. Clare arrived at the hospital at around 5:30PM and began requesting orders. The RN that was caring for my wife notified us that Dr was requesting orders and he would be in to say hi and check on my wife. After 15 minutes as the nurse was getting water for my wife saw Dr. Clare leaving and told us, "hmmmm thats odd, he is leaving but he should be back in a couple hours to introduce himself and see how everything is going. That was the last we heard of Dr. Clare. His oncall shift ended at 7am the next morning and Blanca Zank the mid-wife would be oncall for 12 hours, so we figured she would be in at 7am to see my wife. 7am, 8am, and 9am went by and no sign of anyone, so the nurse decided to call in the office at around 10 and spoke to blanca. Come to find out Blanca was never notified by Dr. Clare that my wife was at the hospital waiting to be seen by a Dr. My… wife had difficulties delivery which ended in an emergency c-section becauae of her water being broken for so many hours. this could have been avoided if Dr. Clare would have done his job properly.Personally i think Dr. Clare could have done a much better job in comunicating that a patient was needing medical attention to the new on call nurse. We feel hecdidnt show interest in coming by to introduce himself because he figured my wife would be delivering after his on call shift. We refuse to be seen by Dr. Clare for any future needs.
