Dr. Sean Christopher Pfeffer, MD

Dr. Pfeffer was kind, patient, & helpful to my mother. Several of her doctor’s will not “see” her, physically, due to COVID-19. Everyone is asking her to do TeleHealth. I am not a nurse, or a doctor of any kind, & although I understand the concerns of physically seeing a high-risk elderly patient, during this pandemic; however, in over 4 months, Dr. Pfeffer has been the only one even offering us a choice, let alone, physically seeing my mom. We are very pleased with his willingness to allow us to choose, & to take the time out to secure her safety & well-being throughout our entire visit. Our follow-up with him, will be through TeleHealth; however, the choice & the attention given to her, during her visit, has given me some confidence that we can go another 3 months without, physically, seeing a Doctor. We are very grateful for the peace of mind, & courteousness that Dr. Pfeffer have to my Mom.

Look at these reviews. What does "self verified" with no comments yet a high rating mean? Pfeffer probably planted these. I went to him for nearly 2 yrs trying to find out if I should give him a chance. I said I am not coming back, he doesn't help me. Pfeffer doesn't keep track of my thyroid tests and doesn't do well at explaining. I ask him for 3 tests recommended by the Mayo Clinic because my apt. was full of black mold and I had some symptoms. He refused me all but one the " blood toxins" and had no good reason why. Other than treating something minor he knows very little and rushes you through. They sent me a release form and it said effective within 30 days of this letter so I wrote him a note prior to 30 days; please refill my meds until I can see my new doc and he refused. Isn't that illegal? He got mad, feelings hurt. I have been out of my thyroid med for 12 days, very low on blood pressure, Cymbalta, and trazodone. I have called around and found it difficult to find a… doc who will talk over the phone. Aetna provides what meds I have taken over 25 yrs in some cases. All the docs have to do is call. These docs offer me no protection going to their dirty offices even though they say they clean. But not after every patient as one receptionist told me. I am 69, a compromised immune system, extreme fatigue, chronic depression, lichen planus and RLS, (a weakened immune system), Gerd and have had a headaches for 3 weeks, with stye and pink eye and high blood pressure. Someone please make these stupid Joplin doctors smarter, report them. they are not protecting us.

I had a very thorough visit with Dr. Pfeffer. He talked to me about various options I have, regarding my reason for visiting him. Additionally, he explained my options, and followed up with a hood discussion, as to what path we were going to start. I have been to tons of doctors & no one has been able to help me, or figure out what was happening with me...until Dr Pfeffer. I’d recommend him to anyone, anytime. This man has changed my life- for the better.

Dr Pfeffer was my family doctor for a few years. I have to say, I had a bad experience with this physician and Joplin health care in general, regarding cancer. My prostate was enlarged, and i sought his care regarding this. He gave me the standard PSA blood test, and this particular blood test indicated normal levels and that my prostate was just enlarged, and was most likely benign enlargement due to age. He started me on a medicine that he said would probably shrink my prostate, but that it would most likely take about a year to see any significant results. After about a year on this drug, there was no reduction in the size of my prostate, and he started me on a second drug, which also showed no reduction in size. I advised Dr Pfeffer that this was also causing me other issues, and he recommended that I talk to a urologist about this. Please note, that I was over 60 years of age at the time i began seeing Dr Pfeffer about my condition, and Dr Pfeffer never once did a digital… exam with his finger to actually feel the prostate gland. I went to the urologist, and explained my situation. The very first exam that the urologist did, was a digital finger examination, and after this exam, he told me that my prostate gland felt asymmetrical, and firmer on one side than it did on the other side, and suggested that I have a biopsy performed. The urologist did the biopsy, and the results came back that my prostate was cancerous. My urologist suggested that I have my prostate surgically removed, in hopes of a cure. I had the surgery, and after the surgery, another PSA blood test was done, and there was still PSA present in my blood, which as I understood, shouldn't be. I was then referred to a radiation oncologist in Joplin, where I underwent radiation treatments. After the radiation treatments, which were concentrated in an area where the cancer was not present there was still PSA present. My urologist suggested the next step should probably be hormone therapy. I decided to seek a second opinion at another facility outside the Joplin area, and they gave me a more thorough examination, including a PET scan, and this scan, and another biopsy indicated the prostate cancer had metastasized to my right lung, thereby making me a stage IV prostate cancer patient. he treatment I received at this other facility was outstanding. My life has been completely turned upside down, in my opinion, by the lack of a thorough examination by Dr Pfeffer. I feel that had a digital exam been done earlier, my cancer could have been detected earlier, and that it may not have gone to Stage IV. Dr Pfeffer apparently depended on the PSA blood test, instead of being more cautious. PSA blood tests results should not be depended on to detect prostate cancer as they are not always 100% accurate, and had a PET scan and digital exam been conducted sooner, I may not be facing what I am facing today. Dr Pfeffer, I am sorely disappointed in your care, and sorely disappointed in the cancer care in the Joplin area.

I have been seeing Dr Pfeiffer for several years now, & I know he is a good, thorough doctor. He manages my care very well, & keeps in mind the expenses that my insurance does & does not cover. I was prescribed something, went to the pharmacy to pick it up, & it was gonna cost me $300! I called Dr Pfeiffer, immediately, & he came out of another patient’s room, & prescribed me something similar, but a lot less expensive. My insurance use to cover the initial script the Dr ordered, but now it does not. Dr Pfeiffer did not sound irritated or annoyed by my call up to the office, regarding the price of the first script. He quickly, took good care of me. I’d recommend him & his office workers to anyone. He’s a good guy, & I’m happy he’s in charge of my health care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Pfeffer’s for quite sometime now. His office use to lack kind, caring, & efficient employees. But, over this last year, I think the good doctor, finally, found some employees that compliment his good, medicinal doctoring. Typically, these employees are the ones you have to talk to, call, hear from, etc...it’s important to have a pleasant experience with everyone you encounter; not just the doctor.

Very pleased with my appointment & the journey from beginning to end. Not only was my entire appointment, ran on good time, I was also treated kindly & felt like those that worked with me, were knowledgeable & cared about me & my health. Dr. Pfeffer will continue to care for me & my health, as he is a kind, well-spoken young man.

Dr Pfeiffer is very professional and attentive. He is thorough in dianosing and treating your conditions and in ordering the needed tests. He also very good in at following up in his treatment of his patients. I would recommend him. He does seem a little aloof at first, but I think that is because he is trying very hard to listen to what you are saying and analyzing what treatment you require. By my third visit he was much more open and friendly. He seems to be a very caring doctor.

Staff is rude. Jessica needs to be trained on people skills.

The company i work for, recently changed insurance plans & with that change, came an "in-network" hospital change, as well. I was furious, at first because I have been going to Dr. Sean (as I call him) for the last 6 years. It took me a long time to find a healthcare provider that not only listened to his patients, but also administered quality care. When I called Dr. Pfeffer's office to inquire about my new health insurance, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that , although the hospital facilities that my new plan requires me to visit, he is affiliated with both, Freeman and Mercy, but he is considered "independent," which means that he accepts Medicare patients, tons and tons of various insurance plans, both private and group, Medicaid patients, cash-only, and flex plan patients, as well. So, what does this mean? My insurance can change, my hospital of choice may change, but my doctor of choice, will remain intact. Dr. Sean will get keep on seeing this old mug.
