Dr. Seth Alexander Resnick, MD

Going to a psychiatrist means you've got serious concerns about your own well-being and are willing to begin treatment, hoping for the best. You want a knowledgeable doctor that's going to try to understand and help.  I saw Dr. Resnick from 2019-2021. He was routinely 15-45 minutes late with no explanation or apology. (Before our first appt. I had been waiting an hour after coming back later that day because he had been so backed up around the time of my original appt. -- he went to an office party first, right in front of me, before beginning my already hours-delayed appt.)  Within 5 minutes of our first session, I could tell he was not even slightly invested. He didn't make eye contact. He was robotic. He was smarmy. That did not change after the first session and made me wonder if he has some contempt for his chosen profession, or me, or his patients in general, or a mix--I'm not sure. This continued throughout our sessions. I take responsibility for staying with him for two… years. I'm not sure why I did. He only spoke about what was going on in terms of my medication, and not life. (In his defense, this is something I hear is common among psychiatrists.) However, once he prescribed a certain medication and a certain dosage he did everything he could to discourage testing different dosages and medications even though my feedback was not positive. I'm not sure if the status quo he strove for was a matter of laziness, but he never had good answers to questions about medication. I couldn't get good answers until I started seeing someone else. This made me wonder if perhaps he was not up-to-date on the newest research--I'm not sure.  Dr. Resnick was often difficult to reach and there were instances where prescriptions were not refilled on time, resulting in uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. This was the scary part of being his patient. But perhaps worst of all, after I posted a poor review on his company's Google profile he captured my personal information (home address and phone #) from his employer, AdvantageCare's records; then left me a 97-second voicemail I did not listen to within minutes of posting the review; then had his lawyers send me a threatening letter to my home address. Notice that Dr. Resnick responds to negative online reviews in a few ways: -Non-apology (e.g., "I'm sorry YOU felt") -Gaslighting (e.g., "I always strive to do XYZ for my patients", even though patient accounts are contradictory) -Dismissal (e.g., "This review is from a patient who saw me at a different practice than they are commenting on and thus does not apply to me") -Unethically (gives himself or has a family member give him 5-star reviews) Most of these methods of interaction sum up what it's like being his patient: uncomfortable, unsatisfying, and unpleasant.
