Dr. Shantanu Kumar Thakur, MD

I notice that all of the five-star reviews for Dr. Thakur have either no comment or one short sentence as a comment. Are those reviews genuine? They certainly do not agree with my experience with Dr. Thakur.

Dr. Thakur is now working as a rehabilitation physician at Banner University Hospital (aka Good Samaritan) in Phoenix, AZ. The guy is a crook. When I was to be discharged from the hospital, he tried to pressure me into spending two weeks in "rehabilitation" where I would have spent 21 hours a day confined to a bed and a chair in a room. There were alarms on my bed and chair so that if I attempted to move from one to the other, staff would come running to stop me. Had I agreed to this phony rehabilitation, I would have been very debilitated at the end of the two weeks. I refused to participate in his crooked scheme. In my opinion, he didn't care how much he ruined my health as long as he could trick the insurance company into believing that I would actually receive rehabilitation. He even told me the shopworn tale favored by all administrators who try to pressure patients into passively cooperating in insurance fraud: If I insisted on being discharged "against medical advice,"… meaning against his wishes, my insurance company wouldn't pay the hospital bill, and I would be stuck with it. I am amazed that he thought I was naif enough to fall for that hackneyed falsehood. I did check out of the hospital after refusing "rehabilitation," and the insurance company payed my hospital bill, of course. However, Dr. Thakur got childish revenge for my refusal to go along with his crooked scheme: He wrote three times on my discharge summary that I have "impaired cognition." Impaired cognition? I speak four languages, and my IQ tests in the upper one percent of the population. My university GPA was 4.0. If my cognition is impaired, what does that say about his? My advice is to stay away from Dr. Thakur specifically and Banner University Medical Clinic in Phoenix in general. The hospital has many great physicians, but management from headquarters down to the supervisory level is full of people who do not have the patients' interest at heart. Unfortunately, Dr. Thakur is not an exception
