Dr. Sharyn Nan Lewin, MD

I can't speak more highly of Dr. Lewin. At this point, I'm an 8-year survivor of her expertise and care. 8 years ago I was terrified, knowing something was very wrong, and immediately went to a trusted gynecologist. Dr. Lewin is where I was directed to for surgery and care. She is highly competent and has an amazing rapport with her patients. Her attentiveness, kindness, understanding and solicitation is unsurpassed IMO. She also has an amazing staff. Love them all and can't say enough good things about them.

Dr. Lewin told me that I have a very high probability of cancer risk, which affectively made preventive surgery seem like a no brainer. However, the geneticist I saw around the same time as Dr. Lewin put my cancer risk at a considerably lower estimate. My own research brought me more in line with the geneticist’s estimate. What worries me is patients frightened by Dr. Lewin taking her at her word and rushing in to have prophylactic surgery. Since this kind of surgery is preventive no one would ever be able to prove whether her assessment was right or wrong. For those women who haven’t undergone menopause some studies show that surgery-induced menopause carries significant long term risks. Dr. Lewin did not discuss any of these risks with me. I felt that she was steering me in the direction she wanted me to take by dwelling on heightened cancer risks and not covering surgical downsides. If you wish to have surgery with this doctor I encourage you to do your own independent… research and to also get a second opinion.

Dr. Lewin is clearly a very skilled Dr. and surgeon. Beyond that she is kind, caring and really takes interest in her patients. If you need a gynological oncologist, Dr. Sharyn Lewin Is the one you would want for your journey.
